1) Why is Proffesor Lupin the only proffesor to take the Hogwarts Express to Hogwarts?
2) How long is the train ride to Hogwarts?
3) Why doesn't Dumbledore allow Proffesor Snape to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts? Surely Dumbledore isn't worried about the superstition of the job being jinxed (therefore preventing anything tragic from happening to Severus Snape)?
4) What does a Gamekeeper do exactly?
1 Lupin is put on that train to protect Harry Potter
as is later shown he is one of the order of the Phoenix
a group dedicated towards protecting against the evil
that he who cannot be named is guilty of perpetrating
2 Not sure if an actual time was ever mentioned
but it could be more tahn 5 hours
3 Dumbledore does not want to place Snape into a position where he may fall under the influences that could turn him back into a death eater, besides Snape excells at potions
and who better to teach than a master
4 He is responsible for the grounds and all manner of the creatures that dwell within
wP
2) How long is the train ride to Hogwarts?
ehh it leaves at 11 i think i forget and it gets there after dark so about 8 hours maby
3) Why doesn't Dumbledore allow Proffesor Snape to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts? Surely Dumbledore isn't worried about the superstition of the job being jinxed (therefore preventing anything tragic from happening to Severus Snape)?i think dumbedore is worried about snape getting hurt then if he dies dumbledore won't have anyone to spy on the death eaters
Perhaps some professor always took the Hogwarts Express, or maybe Lupin rode it because it took him to the school all in the daylight hours, quickly. (???)
I'd say the train ride to Hogwarts took a day, arriving in the evening, from what I've read.
I think Dumbledore didn't let Snape teach Defense Against the Dark Arts for the reason you mentioned (even if it's a ploy), and because Snape was simply best at teaching Potions, his specialty, and a position that allowed Snape a lot of leeway in knowing what goes on with the potions and students at all times...
A Gamekeeper does just what the word says, he keeps the game (animals) on a piece of property safe, fed, exercised and in its correct home. He also protects the game from any poaching. Very important on any large piece of property.
1-Professor Lupin is a werewolf, means the ministry is keeping a watch on him.If they found out he is teaching at Hogwarts, they certainly will interfere. It is either that or Lupin was told to go there to protect Harry from dementors.
2-The train starts at eleven'o'clock and the train reaches Hogwarts at night.
3-Ever since Dumbledore rejected the job to Tom Riddle, the job was jinxed and Dumbledore knew so and believed it.He needed Snape to stay longer at Hogwarts.
4-Keeps the animals in the grounds safe.
1.He is the only one who has a "life" out side of Hogwarts. he is coming in from London as are the students.
2.long enuff to get there.
3.Because he knows Snape has a proclivity toward the dark himself, and dumbledore is not entirely sure of him...either that, or he does not want to put him in the way of temptation.
4. A gameskeeper keeps the animals safe, controlled, fed, prevents poaching, etc.
1.I guess mostly for protection because of the Black situation, and J.K. Rowling had to put someone to repel dementors on the train. Otherwise he could have apparated into Hogsmeade and simply walk to Hogwarts.
2.I think 9-12 hours because they take off in the morning and arrive in the evening just in time for dinner.
3.I guess it was easier for Dumbledore to find a DADA teacher than a Potions teacher, that's why he had to convince prof. Slughorn to come back from retirement in book six because no one applied for the DADA post. I mean it's not like he never gave Snape the job.
4.Take care of the magical creatures living on Hogwarts grounds, he is also keeper of the keys, and as keeper of the keys, it is Hagrid's job to meet the Hogwarts first-years and escort them from the Hogsmeade railway station across the lake to Hogwarts.
1) Well, Lupin is quite poor. Maybe he can't afford a broom. Maybe Dumbledore ASKED him to take the train knowing the dementors might try some funny business. Also, he IS a warewolf, so maybe he is monitored more closely by the ministry and may not be as readily able to use other magical forms of transport.
2) No one really knows. Probably several hours as they typically leave in daylight and arrive at night.
3) More than likely it IS because of the curse. Dumbledore outritght KNOWS the job is cursed, and any teacher only lasts a year and he needs Snape for other matters.
4) Well, Hagrid is a special case, but a game keeper would generally keep the game....meaning he is responsible for making shure the school's animals are well fed and taken care of in case anyone wants to hunt them down and eat them.
Of course, these are just my personal theories.
Lol, you're full of questions. I have some too, but this isn't the place...
1. I think he was hired last minute, and didn't have enough money to hire a transport. And he couldn't apparate into Hogwarts, could he?
2. All day. From late morning to dinnertime.
3. Maybe Dumbledore doesn't want Snape to "get attracted" to the D.A. again. Inference is key. :P
4. Take care of the creatures in the forest. Either that, or Dumbledore made it up as an excuse to let Hagrid stay at Hogwarts.
1) It was his first year teaching and he didn't have any other way to get there.
2) i would guess around 5-10 hours.
3) Snape was a followerer of Voldemort and Dumbledore is afraid letting Snape teach the dark arts will make it revert back to his old, evil state.
4) Gamekeepers clean the field and tidy things up on the Quidditch field? Or maybe they get the animals (game) that Hogwarts eats.
1) JKR put Lupin on the train just to show the Patronus Charm. She always does this, shows you a little bit first, so when the main thing happens you know what is about. Like Priori Incantate, when Harry's an Voldemort's wands connect in GoF, you find it in the begining of the book, after the Quidditch match.
2) From 11 a.m. until dark , which in summer in England is after 9 p.m. so do the math - between 10 and 11 hours
3)Yes he is worried about the job being jinxed
4)At Hogwarts takes care of the magical creatures in the forest, training thestrals, etc
1) Professor Slughorn does in the sixth book as well. I don't know for sure, but I believe that it's because they don't want to travel another way.
2) It doesn't say. All it says is that it is dark when they gets there, it's dark outside. I assume they get on the train in the early morning, so 12 hours or so I assume.
3) Dumbledore knows the jinx is ever since he refuse Tom Riddle the job, and giving Snape the job won't slove anything. I suppose it's because he wants to keep Snape on a short leash.
4) I'm not sure. Some English term I don't understand (I'm American).
