I was SO extremely upset when I heard this news on Thursday (August 14th, a day before my Birthday!)...My boyfriend showed me the article, and it was such BS. Its ridiculous how Warner Bros.' only "official" reason for doing this is to capitalize on the "summer season," for higher profits, for more money!?? First off, they already spent a ton of money on advertising (and releasing the first Teaser trailer, already late onto the internet AND in theaters *WITH* a November release date)!!! It didn't make sense to me at all, especially since other Harry Potter films have been released in November in previous years. It's HARRY POTTER! Regardless of when it is released, it will make the WB rich!!
Well, then the next day I read another article that made more sense, stating the real reason Warner Bros. moved the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 8 months back was because Daniel Radcliffe's New York Boradway play (with Richard Griffiths), Equus, will be running around the same time, and they didn't want a "family" film (which already has a huge fan base regardless), being marred with controversy because it's lead is starring in such an adult play. They thought that during press for Harry Potter, they would ask Dan about his play Equus, and the WB didn't want the two related in any way, so they pushed it so far back, hoping that the hype from the play with die down by then, they won't loss any potential viewers of the Harry Potter film because of this, AND because *maybe* it just might be a slightly better release date during Summer of next year than this November. Not to mention the uproar this is alreadyl causing for fans, plus the added publicity, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will surely be big for the WB, no question.
I hate that this has happened. It's absolutely unheard of, SELFISH, and as such a faithful fan of the franchise, I am very disappointed that this has happened, period!!! F*** the WB!!!!!!
I think this question would be better off in the movie section but I guess since Harry Potter is also a book, then this is ok too. Anyway, I'm a little bit upset but not really. Twilight is by far my favorite series and I am way more excited for that movie than I am for Harry Potter. I still wish that the Half-Blood Prince was coming out in November. The sooner the better. =]
Good grief! Movie section not the Books and Authors section. I know, I know, it's crowded with questions about HP and it's also a book. I'm sorry, but this is going to get repetitive really quickly.
I'm sad by the way even though I'm ranting. It's too bad they've moved it a year ahead.
I feel like someone told me Christmas is pushed back seven months. Warner Brothers isn't even sorry. All they care about is money, but they say they care about the fans. If they cared about fans, they wouldn't have moved it.
I was SO disappointed when I found out! Personally, I think Twilight paid HP off so that there would be less competition. Because as much as people love Twilight, Harry Potter would still make more money. 11 more months .... :(
I am extremely upset. They are only bumping the date back to boost 2009 profits. Together, HP fans can fight this. Visit my website, www.freewebs.com/p3princess for more info on what we can do.
I was SO mad! I was counting down the days. Now we have to wait 331 days until the midnight showing!! I can't wait that long. I'm so SAD! By the way its coming out July 17th 2009
OMG I am so mad! I don't give a care about twilight, and HP shouldn't of changed the date just because another big movie is comin out!!!
I HATE WARNER BROTHERS!
omg i was furious!!! thats like a yeaar from now & i was so looking forward to it! >:(
