How different would the world be without Harry Potter?

Serious Question. Do you think that the success of Harry Potter has shaped the literary world? What has it's impact been and how different would it be if that oh so famous secretary had not dug out JK Rowling's manuscript and forced her editor to read it?

it doesn't matter for me and lots of people i know,we can read another book and imagine something more from another literature.

seriously,i don't like harry potter that much. well, even it against the world about what i said, but i'm honest with myself.........i can say and tell u guys again and again that i don't like harry potter that much. anway i'm not some kind of presstimistic,i have the reason about what i think.

yeah, harry potter is fun,i accept this. but it some kind of instant fun.

i'm not sure, but i guess that the writer had planed for the book to return to be a film,'cause some scene and some gag is some kind of film's trick.

yeah, harry potter is full of imagine,i accept. but in same way is the kind of instant imagine.

the reader will have no chance to imagine something more than the letter in the book.

compare with the another writer as "roald dah" ,"michael ende" and bra bra bra. they gave the reader more space to imagine something out of the letter and the words in a book. reader can see a new whole world by their feeling.

.........................

i know u guys that so harry potter mania will hate me 'cause what i said. so let u hate or agrument about me,u have your own's right. for me aswell,i have my right, i will still say the same thing................

i don't like harry potter.

yes, i think that JK had a huge impact to the world. after harry pottet everyone turned to write magical stories. althought different but magical. some even dare to write about simular things. to create all of that books means alot to the literature world. i think that with harry she opened the fanasy to everyone

I think there would be less kids interested / excited about reading.

Any book, especially one of such popularity, has an effect on culture and personalities. Kids would probably be "less beleiving" in mystics, wizzards etc.

Also, the Lady who wrote the books wouldn't be blowing her nose with $100 bills...

lot of children wouldn't have potteromania at least ... :)

Idon't think it would have worldly affect unless it was banned and all the books were burned

But if H.P. never came to be there would have been something else.

Good books though!

much better; jk Rowling is a very mediocre writer and it would be much better if kids read Tolkein, Alexander (the Taran wanderer seriies),CS Lewis, Joan Aiken, etc. There is some absolutely fantastic children's literature out there and Harry Potter is simply mediocre. I have read several novels, just to keep up with what my cousins are reading, and have been massively dissapointed by the unimaginative writing, the poor characer developlent, etc. The only advantage of the HP books is that you can read them extremely quickly (since they are badly written, you just need to catch on to the basic story line and you can consume hundreds of pages in a few hours). They remind me most of the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series, which you could also read extremely rapidly, but which nothing to enrich your literaray experience...unlike Tolkein, Alexader, CS Lewis, Joan Aiken, EB White and all the great classics of children's literature.

It is a book. It is not the Bible, Torah, or Koran. The literary world would be juts fine if it happened or didn't. However it is a great thing that it sparked the imagination of so many children.

It's got a lot of kids interested in reading, that's always a good thing.

that book changed alot of my life, it got me really interested in the fantasy parts of literature. i met one of my past boyfriends because of our love for harry potter. and it finally got my brother interested in reading.

Well, we wouldn't know what we'd be missing if the series was never written. There'd probably be some other bestseller that would captivate the entire literary world that everyone would be obsessed about.

I think that Harry Potter hasn't really shaped the literary world, but it definitely has impacted how companies market products and how there are books, websites, toys, posters, etc that have to do with Harry Potter. So it definitely has impacted our society. I think the best thing that has happened since Harry Potter is that kids are more willing and enthusiastic to read now, generally speaking.

Well duh it made a difference. A lot less kids would be excited about reading. Now you can just watch them on the movie screen but, the books are sooo much better. Any kid could see that from reading the book!

Why is it so hard for me to understand Harry Potter books?

When Harry Potter first came out, it sounded interesting and fun. Someone had given me his first book as a gift. I tried to read it, but it was so boring that I couldn't get past chapter 1. I'm not into science fiction that much, but I do have some books that may be science fiction: Roald Dahl's Matilda, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator; The Girl with the Silver Eyes by Willo Davis Roberts, and Madeline L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time and A Wind in the Door. I love these books and have kept them up to now, but I tossed out Harry Potter after it sat on my shelf for years without being opened.

Any suggestions on how I can understand Harry Potter better?

you were prob. very young back then.

i don't like science fiction that much either but i absolutely LOVE harry potter.

just push past the first couple of chapters and soon the book's magic will reveal itself.

you just have to start reading it. slowly you should be able to get into it. If not that okay too. You don't have to be a Harry Potter fan like the rest of the world.

Although Harry Potter is wildly popular, it does not fit the literary interests and tastes of everyone.

Maybe, it's just not for you.

You've listed a lot of interesting books...great books, in fact.

So what if your not a fan of Harry Potter?!?

Understanding yourself and what you do and do not like is a wonderful gift to have. Is it really that important to understand Harry?

Just a thought.

You can't read something that you can't get into. Frankly, I can't stand the Lord of The Rings.

But if you are sincerely interested in Harry Potter, I would suggest checking some fansites out and such.

well, first of all, you should start reading the book again because the first chapters are a little boring, but it gets really good and you wont want to put it down when you get towards the end. its the same with most of the books in the series.

Well, I watched the first three movies, and then read the books, so I knew what was coming up. Then, you have to understand how they are written. One book equals one year spent at Hogwarts, and the things that happen during that year. Then, Harry goes back to his aunt and uncle's house during the summer. So they usually begin with him at his aunt and uncle's house, and end with him going back there. Except for the books (1, 4, and 6) where the very beginning of the book explains something that is happening. Book 1 begins when Dumbledore puts Harry on the doorstep of his aunt and uncles house when he is an infant the night his parent's died. Book 4 begins with a dream Harry is having... Then, Harry is at the house, waiting to go back to Hogwarts. Then, he goes back to Hogwarts and the rest of the story is everything that happens during the year he is there. At the beginning, you are left with a sort of confusion about what is going to happen from there, but then you keep reading to find out what does happen. Then you keep reading, and reading, and reading, until you read the last book and most everything is explained, or finished.

Personally, although I enjoyed some of the Harry Potter books, I really don't feel that they were as well-written or captivating as most of the books you named. I'd say that those are classics, whereas Harry Potter is more of a cult (albeit a huge cult) fad. If you understood those books enough to enjoy them, then it isn't a matter of understanding Harry Potter better--it's just not your type of book. If you don't enjoy Harry Potter, there's no harm in it--there is nothing so outstanding about them that everyone should like them.

how i do it is that you just have to keep reading even if it doesnt make any sense they all start some time later after the book before it so if you keep reading it should become clearer as you go on. thats how i got past all of the ones i have read

I felt the same way with Harry Potter when I first started the book. Once I got to the 3rd chapter, things started happening and I could not put the book down. J K Rowling had the story already in her head and had to lay down the groundwork for the rest of the books. She had to give an idea of where Harry came from and what he has had to live with so you can feel and grieve with Harry throughout all of the books. Please, try to read again and get past the 1st and 2nd chapters, because the books are wonderfully written and so descriptive, you can picture everything happening. They are very emotional and full of action and mystery. I am 36 years old and have read the series now 7 times. I absolutely cannot get enough of it.

You can't really make yourself like a book if you don't then you don't. End of.

Loads of people have laughed at me for not liking Ernest Hemmingway, but there's no point in me trying to read his books when I don't like them, just because lots of other people have enjoyed them.

Well, Harry Potter is not science-fiction, it is fantasy. Well, if you find it boring, you find it boring. I can't really give you tips that would help you enjoy something you don't enjoy. Normally I try to finish it to the end, if I find it so horrible that is almost torturous to read, I normally still finish it, but it's painful.

It's not that hard to understand, it is a kids book after all. I started reading the series around 3rd grade.

You just have to force yourself through the first couple chapters then it starts explaining things and gets into more action.

i dont know how to like it any better, but it might seem boring at first, but after you get through a couple chapters, it will get very interesting, or at least for me. Hopefully, you will get addicted to it, and will not get tired even afte reading it a couple times.

Harry Potter and the deathly hallows protagonist and antagonist symbols?

I need a two Symbols one for the protagonist and one for the antagonist of harry potter which i think is harry potter and voldemort

Any ideas for them?

Thanks!

Harry- You could use a lightning bolt to represent his scar, you could use the Deathly Hallows symbol, since he united them, or you could use a sellotaped pair of glasses! You could use a symbol of the power of love, as cheesy as it sounds. This was an advantage Harry had over Voldemort, remember. There's always a stag- his patronus, remember.

Voldy- A snake, or something to symbolise power. The Dark Mark, maybe, or a cross to symbolise the deaths he caused (it's not always a Christian symbol). What about a pair of narrow, red eyes? It's how his were described in the book, and they are always associated wiith evil.

There are lots of possibilities!

For Voldy: The dark mark, obviously, because it blends both the snake fascination and Voldy's own snake-like qualities, and his odd fascination/fear of death, as symbolized by the skull.

For Harry: a modified symbol of the Deathly Hallows, with an upside down heart making the triangle, a lightning bolt making the line, and a circle making a circle. You could try making the circle into glasses, but that would be a bit too distracting. Another variant is keeping the traingle a triangle and making the circle into a right-side up heart, and still making the line a lightning bolt.

Harry: Lightning Bolt, Lion.

Voldemort; The Dark Mark (snake out of skull), ?

harry=gryffindor,bolt shaped scar

voldermort=snake,skull

Symbols from the book?

If so...

Harry--

Lightning bolt, lion

Voldemort--

Snake, horcrux

for harry his lightning scar and his glasses...for voldemort i think serpent or a snake....and some of the horcrux..maybe the slyhterin's locket

Harry's would obviously be a scar. Voldemort...well something to do with immortality?

How Long Is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Expected to Be?

Does anyone know how long the Harry Potter book 7 is supposed to be? I've heard somewhere between 1,000 and 2,000 pages. But I'm not sure. Anyone seen an article anywhere announcing it or something?

They had reached the foot of the marble staircase. A line of fourth-year Ravenclaws was crossing the entrance hall; they caught sight of Harry and hurried to form a tighter group, as though frightened he might attack stragglers.

you, unlike me, r a git if u hate harry potter

How come the Harry Potter books became so popular?

What makes the Harry Potter stories to great? I am writing a book on the same genre and really I dont see the alure in Harry Potter books. Is it the school setting to where school kids can relate?

That's a big part, it's always good to pull your target audience in with somethign they can relate to.

They also benefited from being one of the few series in a long while that was styled and aimed for kids, but was intelligently written enough that adults could enjoy them. Not only does that expand the audience exponentially, but the kids will keep on liking the books as they get older.

For me, the single most satisfying element was the conherence of the world. Rowling started with one exception to the normal world, magic exists, and everythign else about the setting flowed from that. Particularly, she addressed the question of, "if magic exists, why don't we see it?". Her answer was the secrecy of the wizarding world and the various government agencies that make sure that magic stays hidden from us "muggles".

Good luck.

Yeah, I really agree with the first question.

The characters are so three dimensional, and so is the world, that I can't help but wonder if there really is a magic world that we don't know about. Rowling's made it believable. And I think what makes it alluring is different for everyone. I already gave you my answer.

But, hey, an opinion is an opinion.

That's a big part, it's always good to write books that have an interchangeable target audience. This series can be read by an eleven year old, but also a young adult, who although may understand more, still relates on the same level as the eleven year old.

The success is also due to the loyal fan base who kept the excitement coming. It seems every time this young Potter boy dies, another new discovery is made, giving the books a mysterious element.

The author of this series, not only had a beautiful knack for words, but she knew how not to give much away. Anyone reading, say, the fifth book is drawn to the sixth for the almost addicting desire to know what happens to the wizarding world.

The books had a plot line that could easily be followed, but is more in depth if you search. The series is written of problems many people face presented in humorous and adventurous ways. Particularly, she addressed the question of, "if magic exists, why don't we see it?". Her answer was the secrecy of the wizards world and the ministry, who always lets something slip.

i love the first answer you got! also i love knowing that J. K. Rowling has history and details for all of her characters. even though we don't find out everything it makes the characters seem more realistic when you know where they come from and their backgrounds. hope this helps!

What are some books similiar to Harry Potter that I can read now that the series is over?

The books don't neccesarily have to involve magic or fantasy. My favorite things about the Harry Potter books are the amazing characters, the adventures, and the mysteries that are solved with logic. Does anybody know of books simliar to HP that are like that? I need something good to read now that Harry Potter is over! Thanks in advance !

The Inkheart Trilogy by Cornelia Funke

Inkheart

Inkspell

Inkdeath (to be released sometime in 2008)

Meggie and her father, Mortimer, are both avid bookworms. Their house is filled with books and there is never a moment where Meggie isn't caught reading. However, no matter how much Meggie begs her father, he will not read a book aloud for her. One day, Meggie finds out why. She finds out that her father has the ability to read characters out of books: that is to say, they will materialize in the human world. This ability marks Mortimer as the target of some very dangerous fictional criminals who have been accidentally read into the human world.

This series is just perfect for you if you want pure fantasy and magic. There's really no other word to describe these books other than magical.

Trilogy Lord Of The Rings by J.R.R.Tolkien

The Dark Tower series from Stephen King

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series from Douglas Adams

The Edge Chronicles it is a children's book they are awesome

nothing compares to harry.

but i would suggest...c s lewis or artemis fowl

If you aren't up to reading The Lord of The Rings try The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander (which is based on Welsh mythology). Or if you're looking for a long series you might check out either David Eddings Belgariad & Mallorean series, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time or Richard E. Feist's Riftwar series.

I love Jenny Nimmo's The Children of the Red King series (also called the Charlie Bone books.) It is very similar to the Harry Potter series and yet is unique as well. So far there are 6 books in the series.

"Charlie Bone's relatively *ordinary* life ends when he discovers he can hear the thoughts of people in photographs. This magical endowment places him in a new school, Bloor's Academy, and he is caught up in its many intrigues and meets others who have special abilities."

There is an excellent new series by Michelle Weston called The Elysian Chronicles. The first book is called A PROPHECY FORGOTTEN, and here is the book review I wrote about it:

M. B. Weston’s A Prophecy Forgotten (Book One of The Elysian Chronicles) is an outstanding first novel in what is bound to be a significant book series. Though technically a Young Adult book, A Prophecy Forgotten is Young Adult the way the Harry Potter series is â€" people of all ages will love it. The action starts in a mystical place called Heaven’s Realm, where the Cherubians (the good guys, for the most part) are locked in a war with the Mornachts (the bad guys).

The story stretches all the way to earth, where a novice Cherubian soldier named Gabriella watches over a troubled young boy named Tommy. Tommy is the subject of the forgotten prophecy for which the book is named. Unaware of his epic destiny, Tommy is kept plenty busy by the break-up of his parents’ marriage and problems at school. While Gabriella does her best to protect him from bullies and wandering Mornachts, a Cherubian Special Forces officer named Davian is trying to learn just what role Tommy will play in saving Heaven’s Realm. Davian leads a hand-picked team of Cherubian soldiers deep into Morvenia, the land of the Mornachts, not knowing that the real threat is back in his home country, Elysia.

M.B. Weston has created a fantastic world filled with prescient unicorns, hyperactive sprites, supposedly neutral gnomes, wolves, Sabers (saber-toothed tigers), dragons, and a Minotaur or two. Even so, this is no fantasy realm: There are rules here. The Cherubians can fly, but they are susceptible to poisonwood arrows fired by the Mornachts. When a Mornacht is killed in battle it explodes, posing all sorts of difficulties for covert operators like Davian. A set of books called The Runes is believed by some Cherubians to hold the answer to their difficulties, but others scoff at this ancient wisdom. And on earth, Gabriella tries to steer Tommy away from making the wrong choices, choices which will make him susceptible to the Mornachts.

M.B. Weston is an exciting new voice with a limitless imagination and a wonderful sense of humor. If the rest of this series is only half as good as A Prophecy Forgotten, it will be a major success.

If that doesn't do it for you, I am the author of a new murder mystery series set in Florida. The first book, MURDER IN EXILE, was published by St. Martin's Press in 2006 and the second one, REDUCED CIRCUMSTANCES, was just released. You can read sample chapters at my website, www.vincenthoneil.com

like the series of unfortunate events or eragon

I like Twilight and New Moon which two books in a quartet by Stephanie Meyers the third book Eclipse is coming out this month and Tamora Pierce is an amazing author.

i really enjoy the Inheritance tri, Eragon, Eldest and one more we dont know the title of. those are really great, with a similar time period of LotR but with much less names and places! i also like Darren Shan, author of Cirque du Freak series and The Demonata series. though they are more gorey and about vampires, its the charcters that make the book what it is. the writing is childish (because of the voice of the character) the plot is very good.

Artemis-Fowl is a great one. So is a Chronicals of Narnia. My family and wish that JK would make a series on Albus Servous, James and Lily. I doubt that that would happenbut is it did I bet you read grab the book in a second.

I like the Pendragon books.

Try the Eragon/Inheritance series and the Artemis Fowl series.

Philip Pullman's trilogy His Dark Materials (the first is The Golden Compass)

The Spiderwick Chronicles

Artemis Fowl books

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell (this last one is more difficult to read and is more suitable for adults than children)

C.S.Lewis is wonderful. The Chronicles of Narnia

There are some good series written by Piers Anthony. My favorite is the Xanth series.

Try Anne McCaffery.... Dragons of Pern series

Mercedes Lackey has written several series of books you might enjoy

Terry Brooks is another author you would enjoy .

J.R.R. Tolkien !!!

You can find all these authors at your public library.

try the series of unfortunate events. idk HARRY POTTER IS THE BEST THOUGH!!!

You might like the Dune series, or Lloyd Alexander's series, depending on your age. Maybe the Robert Jordan series [at least 10 volumes that I know of]. Jennifer Roberson's "Sword" series; David Eddington has several series out--many of these may be found in libraries or used book stores which makes them appealling to those who love books but not high prices.

The Pendragon Adventure (dj Machale) it's pretty good, i enjoyed atleast the first 5ish books

i love the characters in Twilight (Stephenie Meyer), they were just so well written

This one is (according to my friends) kind of boring but i love it - Inkheart (Cornelia Funke), i just like it, one of my favorite literary characters is in here

and if you want something REALLY similar to HP, there's always the Charlie Bone series (Jenny Nimmo), its about 'endowed' kids going to a type of boarding school, kind of like hogwarts, but not, its pretty good, again, one of my favorite characters is in this one too!

hope that helps!

You can try the Daughters of the Moon Seris, I read book 1-8 a couple of years ago, and I think there is more out. Its about several girls that have certain powers...but its teenage based. I enjoyed them a lot. :D

How can the Harry Potter movies and book series be improved on?

maybe have more villains besides Voldemort? After is'nt having Harry Potter alway fight Voldemort in every movie getting old and tired? Maybe change the main location/setting to someplace else besides the world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? How would you improve the movies or the books?

the movies could be improved, the books couldn't. i love them the way they are. the movies could be better by being six hours long so i can watch everything that happens in the books. would you sit through six hours? i would.

The books are amazing as they are.

There are many villains- not just Voldemort! Bellatrix Lestrange, Fenrir Greyback, and all the other Death Eaters, to name a few.

Harry's struggle with Voldemort is the point of the book- without it, how would Jo emphasise their relationship?

And having Hogwarts as the main setting is a very convenient place to house all those midnight adventures and friendships.

Don't get me started on the movies.

Personally, I think Harry Potter is a near-perfect series in terms of the books, except the epilogue. The epilogue, in my opinion, was utter crap. It was WAY too butterflies-and-rainbows and frolicking-in-the-flowers for my tastes. I'm not saying that everyone should have exploded in a grotesque and gory manner, but everyone seemed so...unaffected by what had happened. Yes, I know it's been 19 years, but you'd think that being exposed to so much death and fear at a young-ish age would be more life-changing.

The movies though...so much was cut! I have no issues with the actors, but they should have left some things in that were cut. For instance, the bit in OotP with the locket was cut, so how on earth are they going to explain that come DH? And Dobby and Winky being cut from GoF was stupid. If they choose to show Dobby dying in DH, then his death won't be nearly as effective as in the book (I cried, and I didn't really cry at anyone else, except Fred) since he hadn't been seen in 5 movies. People would just be like, wtf, why's the random elf thing from CoS showing up again? If they don't show his death, then lots of the major emotional scenes will also be cut.

I also think they should have kept the Rita Skeeter is and Animagus plotline. It would have made OotP better (I found it way too fast moving compared to the book and the other movies).

I do love Harry Potter though, and I'm really sad that it's over. And also, I'm EXTREMELY pissed at the whole movie being pushed back almost a year deal.

Stupid WB.

The books are great as they are.

How would I improve the movies? Based on the last one, a stronger Scriptwriter and Director would be good.

If you're looking to put the existing characters into different locations and situations, there are any number of fan-fiction sites out there...

No , no

i grew up with the books , i love them and wouldn't change a thing, not even the epilogue. every time i read the epilogue i feel that it's not over and i feel better;p

the movies are horrid.

they are b. a. d. movies.

they cut so much out and totally twisted some of the characters and made them aggressive or dumb or did not include them at all.

and i know it is claimed that there are too many of them(characters) and they cost too much money but if not done correctly , then it shouldn't be done at all i think. it would certainly give back a lot more money! and ,HP fans don't mind a long-lasting movie..

how come Lord of the Rings was ok?

I think the Harry Potter series are great the way they are. they are coming out with a new little book that was talked about in the last Harry Potter book. thats coming out december 4th. if you want a movie with more villians, try watching a different kinda action/scary movie. cus harry potter is fine the way it is.

I doubt there is much! I love the Harry Potter books!

But I'm sure that people have what they don't like.

Having more villains than Voldemort? Well, there surely are! Greyback the werewolf, Wormtail, all the Death Eaters, Bellatrix Lestrange... I dunno about you, but I find Greyback much scarier than ole' Voldy. I'm sure there could be more.

The books are just amazing. I think that it makes it all the more interesting having only one villain with a lot of followers. Ring a bell.

The movies could be improved a lot on though. Stick to the book and make them into more than one movie like their doing with the last one.

Perfection can't be improved.

i'm trying to see how a multi-billion dollar franchise comes off as weak in your eyes. Rowlings hit a home run with this, just the way it is.

hmmm, i think the harry Potter series is just fine without you input.

1. Voldemort's status as the only villain is what makes him so scary. He wouldn't be nearly as effective if he was in a League of Justice style gang. Sure he has lots of followers, but no one comes close to his level of evil. Think about it, how many bad guys in lit, movies, or reality have equal partners? If you're the best of the bad, are you really gonna share power?

2. The Harry-Voldemort relationship is one of the most intriguing I've ever read, and every time they fight it gets deeper. Unfortunately, this doesn't play out on screen as well as it does in the books. Besides, they don't battle in every book, and each time the scenario is different.

3. At its most basic level, the series exists to tell the story of Harry's formative years, which take place at Hogwarts. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the school has many secret passages and rooms, its own forest and lake, and Hogsmeade is nearby.

Improvements for the books:

1. SS & COS were pretty much inconsequential. It obvious they were written before Jo realized what a phenomenon the series was. Nothing really important happened until POA, and even then the action for the main story didn't pick up until the end of GOF. OOtP was just too long and slow.

2. I would do almost anything for more Sirius-Snape interactions. Just thinking about the handshake at the end of GOF makes me laugh.

3. I know most readers hate that in the movie Neville gave Harry the gillyweed instead of Dobby, but I prefer the movie version. I think it was a good was to foreshadow Neville's status as the almost-Harry his later importance.

4. Through Dumbledore JKR spends a lot of time talking about how the choices we make matter more heritage, but in HBP we find out that Voldemort was basically born as evil incarnate. In the first 5 books, Jo makes strong points on the power of free will and a conscience, but in HBP she effectively reverses that line of thinking and it seems less likely that Voldemort chose his own path and more likely that he was set on it by the decisions made by Slytherin and the Gaunts before he was even born. If the series had even one person from Voldemort’s lineage who had redeeming qualities, then Jo would have made her point. But by having Voldemort be descended from nothing but bad people and then making him a cruel child, it’s hard to see him as capable of making the choice to be good.

5. The Elder wand allegiance thing needs to be explained better. Dumbledore had the Elder wand and its allegiance. Malfoy disarmed him with a Hawthorne but didn’t take the Elder wand, so Malfoy had the Hawthorne wand and the allegiance of both the Hawthorne and Elder wands, while the Elder Wand was buried with Dumbledore. Later, Harry disarms Malfoy of the Hawthorne wand and Voldemort stole the Elder wand from Dumbledore’s grave. So how did Harry get the allegiance of the Elder wand if he took the Hawthorne wand from Draco? Did Harry just say he had the Elder wand to distract Voldemort? Is it that every time someone is disarmed all wand alleged to them switch allegiance? Confused? ME TOO!

6. Harry should have used the Avada Kedavra curse on Voldemort. DH especially was about Harry growing up and making the right decisions to protect his world at any cost. I think Harry using Expelliarmus allows him to keep some kind of innocence about him. What’s the point of that? Growing up is about the loss of innocence, especially in Harry’s case.

7. Albus Severus…wtf? Why would you do that to your kid? To any kid? Snape did a great thing for Harry, and I’m sure Harry appreciated it, but of all the people who helped him and gave their lives for him, I don’t see Snape as the one Harry would single out to name his kid after. Snape’s my favorite character, but this was a bit much, even for me.

8. I know it’s Harry’s story, but it would have been nice to know how 3 reasonable people like Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff end up creating a school with a homicidal bigot like Slytherin.

The movies

1. SS and COS were pretty faithful to the books and good enough considering the trio’s ages. The third film was the best by far, despite not explaining the Marauders (which would have taken like 2 lines).

2. GOF was my least favorite of the films to date. Michael Gambon’s Dumbledore was an over the top game show announcer. I think this is less his fault and more the fault of the director because he was OK in POA and kick-a$$ at the Ministry in OOTP. I didn’t like that Wormtail called Voldemort by his name at the beginning, but I could get over that. What really ticked me off was that they didn’t include the chapter “The Parting of the Ways”. I think it may be the best chapter of the series and it completely set the tone for the rest of the books.

3. I liked the pace of OOtP as it was much faster than the dragging book. Bellatrix and Umbridge were excellent. I didn’t like that they changed the wording of the prophecy and didn’t reveal how it related to Neville. I HATED how they handled Snape’s worst memory. It made Snape look much more petty than he would have if they had showed Harry in his pensieve.

Okay, be warned, this is going to preeety long. I'm gonna go through each of the suggestions in the question, and then my own suggestions, for both movie and book.

1. Maybe have more villains besides Voldemort?

There is nothing wrong with having one big baddy. This isn't a superhero film, where it seems these days you're required BY LAW to have as many supervillains as your CGI team can produce. There are plenty of villains working under Voldemort, but why obscure things with having two dark forces? It's definitely enough to have the Dark Lord, and then Bellatrix, Wormtail, Greyback, etc. working under him.

2. Isn't have Harry always fight Voldemort in every movie getting old and tired?

It's called archetypes, my friend. In sagas such as this, the good guy fights the bad guy, and they both make it out alive to the next chapter of the saga. Also, Harry didn't fight Voldemort in the third film, nor will he in the sixth film. Actually, we'll hardly see adult Voldemort at all in HBP (if it ever comes out).

3. Maybe change the location to someplace else besides Hogwarts?

As well as being an action/adventure series, it's also a boarding school series, a genre more popular in England than over here. Having your story take place at a boarding school opens up all sorts of new and interesting possibilities, especially on the shipping side, as well as on the "secret passages" side. Also, Deathly Hallows is hardly at Hogwarts at all. Most of the book is the trio (sometimes the duo) camping. We only hear of Hogwarts happening until the end, at the Battle of Hogwarts.

Now, for the movies:

First and second: get a different director. They were pretty faithful to the books, actually, it's just that they could have been better movies, even with the exact same script.

Prisoner of Azkaban: Personally my favorite, because it was a very enjoyable movie. It established some great motifs, like the giant clocktower that was used to such great effect in OotP. They didn't explain the Marauders well enough, which is a pretty big complaint, but it was still definitely the best.

GoF: Almost everything. The left out so much, and they changed canon so much. Why did they replace Dobby's parts with Neville? And they totally made Karkaroff seem so much more like a badguy than they should have. They did that one shot with him sneaking up on the Goblet, that was never explained. Voldy looked cool, but so much great stuff was left out, or changed for no good reason.

OotP: Umbridge was fantastic. Everything that had to do with Umbridge was brilliant. The rest stunk. The climactic battle at the Ministry should have lasted a lot longer. And Sirius's death was messed up in more ways that can be counted. I thought they did Illegimency and Occlumency pretty well, but they messed up Snape's worst memory. Also, why did they make the longest book into the shortest movie?

Okay, as for what I would change to make the books better:

Let me start this off by saying that the books are wonderful as they are, and all problems with the series now really aren't that big a deal for me. But, the question was asked, so I'll answer it.

GET JO SOME DAMN MATH LESSONS.

Jo is never exactly sure with anything involving numbers. There's the missing 24 hours at the beginning of Philosopher's Stone, where Dumbledore waited a whole day before doing anything with Harry for some unexplained reason. There's the size of the Hogwarts' student body, which Jo has said is about 1,000, where it really is more like 200 to 300. Or the Tonks's pregnancy, which did not follow the normal rules of gestation AT ALL.

FOLLOW THROUGH ON YOUR OWN LESSONS

One of my biggest disappointments with DH was the lack of school unity, which was one of the big themes in the series up until that point. But no, Hogwarts survived just fine with every single Gryffindor, most Hufflepuffs, some Ravenclaws, and one Slytherin (Horace Slughorn). In the end, Slytherin was made out to truly be evil just for the sake of being evil - there was no bonding or binding of the houses.

NEVILLE AND LUNA NEED SOME SMOOCHIES

Just personally for me, it's Neville and Luna together for ever, but that's the angry shipper inside of me speaking.

SERIOUSLY, THOUGH, LUNA LONGBOTTOM ALL THE WAY

Stop that! At least there wasn't anything about them in canon, so we can choose to disregard what Jo said afterwards about Neville and Luna, and pretend they got married and lived happily ever after on a Crumple-Horned Snorcack reservation.

NEEDS MOAR EDATENG

Continuity Editing to be precise, more specifically, for the first few books. They got Cheryl McSomething to do the last few, but there are some typos in the first few books, like in the sorting when it says that the last person to get sorted would be Harry, and as he walks back from the Sorting, Zabini gets sorted. Or the fact that this alphabetical order for some reason has "Weasley" go before "Potter".

So, in conclusion, to answer the questioner's questions, No.

Changes to movies: Get a good director and KEEP IT (why did they get rid of Cuaron? Why?!); don't be afraid to make the movies 3 hours long; and redo Sirius's death scene.

Changes to books: Follow through on your own lessons and morals; Luna Longbottom; and NEEDZ MOAR EDATENG.

That's about it! If you actually slogged through this entire thing, my sincerest congratulations!

What is your position on the argument of the harry potter being the devil thing?

i want you to post what side you are on

the side saying that harry potter is evil and jk rowling sold her soul to the devil.

or the side that says that harry potter is just a good book written by a poor talented woman. (im on this side)

also explain why you are on that side

i want to learn the different argument for the different sides.

the people who hate harry potter for religious reasons are utterly confused Harry potter isnt all about magic and spells It is mainly the idea of the battle of right and wrong Harry defeats evil I think God would definitely approve

and if people are that scared that their relationship with God will be conflicted because of a book, then obviously their relationship wasnt that strong to begin with

Harry Potter is exaclty who he is a fictional character. Satab has always been here, satan is a spirit and whoever told you that may have the spirir of satan. God does not like witchcraft and stuff , however harry potter is just a movie and it means nothing when it comes to God or satan, Its just a movies. God has all power over satan, When you go to church on sunday the man that stands before you has satans spirit. He does not keep Gods commandments, ask him why doesn't he keep the fourth commandemnt,

The fact that people think Harry Potter is a book of evil is ludicrous.

It's just a book, people. It will not ruin your child's youthful innocence. Honestly.

I started reading those books in second grade and I'd like to think I turned out okay. There is nothing "demonic" about it! It's about FIGHTING evil, for goodness' sake! I know how religions say witchcraft is bad, but it's not like it's a book telling you should use it. It's fiction.

I say, ha ha, my friend.

It's a book series.

People need to get over it.

I mean, come on!

The book's about a boy fighting evil.

It's a great book!

All people who think it's an evil book are riddikulus.(Ha ha! HP joke =])

Something needs to happen (like, I dunno, someone seeing Jesus in their Spaghetti-O's) so these religious fanatics have something to talk about.

Anybody who has ever read even a few chapters of Harry Potter, (for the sake of educating themselves) will know that Harry is all about bad evil being vanquished by good. It's a better, more positive theme than the bible and quran stuck together.

Harry Potter doesn't deal with God or the devil. Harry doesn't make sacrifices or perform religious rituals. It is totally pretend, more like a fairy tale than anything else. It has nothing of the devil in it, just a fun book.

I don't get the whole devil thing. Do people actually believe that readers will try become witches or wizards? That is stupid. Everyone knows it's FANTASY. Not real. Imaginary. Duh. I knew that in 1st grade. People should save their energy for more important things.

first of all, there is nothing wrong with Harry Potter

second of all It is not written by a poor talented woman. it is one of the best children book the market has ever seen! JK Rowling is a very good writer.

i really dont know i have heard that magic is the devils worship and things but i dont believe it, i think they are ok books and jk rowling is an ok author.

It's just a story. I haven't even read it, but seriously... what about it is evil? Fantasy and magic are not evil, they're entertaining.

Harry rocks and I think God would approve. Harry is kind, loyal, and is on the side of good in the battle of good vs evil.

The Christian god is far more evil than Harry will ever be. The Christian god would be slaughtering people while Harry sits and cries in the corner because Cho Chang rejected him.

It's FICTION. HARMLESS CHILDREN'S FICTION. People who get all uppity and freaked out about 'zomg witchez n debilz' have clearly never even read a single page from any of the books.

I think its a load of crap. No one would have ever raised the arguement if Hogwarts was not called the school or witchcraft and wizardry.

The Harry Potter series are amazing and J.K. Rowling is a very talented author.

Just popular children's fiction which has as much credibility and fact and as the bible or any other religious script.

There are plenty of answers to choose from here. I dunno I just wants some points. I am starving for points. Please help. It's the only thing preventing me from killing myself.

I am all in for Harry.

What should a person read after Harry Potter and His Dark Materials series?

My daughter has really started reading like crazy and I want to keep getting her more books. She has read all of the Harry Potter Series and all of the Golden Compass/His Dark Materials series. What should be the next book?

I have answered this question so many times, I decided to dedicate a web site to answer this question. Here it is:

http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content. There is also a "Reader's Choice" list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books.

I hope this helps.

Jim, http://www.jimpettis.com/wheel/

sorry, charlie [hey that rhymes!]

i am like the BIGGEST HP fan EVAAAAA

and when i finished, i ventured, and ventured, and ventured

NOTHING IS COMPARED TO THAT SERIES, believe me

but, i can recommened the twilgiht series by stephanie meyer http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070926184727AA0eOwx&kid=AJ18InK0M2ErVIiRa9Zd&s=comm&date=2009-02-07+22%3A53%3A16&.crumb=

The Rick Riordan series is not advanced enough. Definitely Lord of the Rings. Garth Nix's books are great. Once you get some of those (start with the Abhorsen series), you can have an author you go back to over and over. Other than that: Stranger in a Strange Land, Temeraire series, Wind and Fire series, Inkheart and Inkspell, Stravaganza, Young Wizards series, Bartimaeus trilogy and Jodi Picoult. Her books are exceptional for teens.

the twighlight series my brother says that it's awesome.

I would reccommend Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer. The three books are really good and should keep your daughter interested. I know I loved them and my little sister who is ten is absolutely upssesed with the books. Hope that helps!

abhorsen trilogy by garth nix, starting with sabriel

edge chronicles by paul stewart and chris riddell, starting with deep in the darkwoods

The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy series by Douglas Adams.

The Circle Of Magic series or The Lioness Quartet series, both by Tamora Pierce.

Depending on her age, it could be a number of things. I know my little sister recently started reading the Maximum Ride (James Paterson) series and the Series of Unfortunate Events (Daniel Handler -- aka Lemony Snickett). But after I finished Harry Potter I got into the Lord of the Rings.

I hope I helped :)

Most of Asimov's books are suitable for all.

I recommend "Gödel Escher Bach - An Eternal Golden Braid" By Douglas Hofstadter.

Try the Chronicles of Narnia. Make sure to start with the Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. . . . it was actually the first book written, though not the first chronologically. It's got great action, lots of magical things and great imagination.

I would suggest Rick Riordan's series called "Percy Jackson and the Olympians." There are currently three books in the series: The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, and The Titan's Curse. There will be two more in the series.

The books are about a boy named Percy who discovers that he is a half-blood; that is, his mother is a human and his father is one of the ancient Olympian gods. He meets other kids in the same situation, and Percy finds himself in the midst of a cosmic battle among the gods that he and his half-blood friends become a part of.

It's a great series that I recommend without qualification.

if she's a teen try the Twilight series...i loved it!!

more suggestions

eragon

inkheart

artemis fowl

charlie bone

stargirl??

series of unfortunate events

these are really good for almost teens

I recommend Madeline L'Engle's "A Wrinkle in Time." It was one of my favorites when I was younger.

The Tomorrow Series - John Marsden

Deltora Quest Series 1, 2 & 3 - Emily Rodda

The Quentaris Series - various authors

Eragon & Eldest - Christopher Paolini

Artemis Fowl series - Eoin Colfer

Also, books by Garth Nix, Anthony Horowitz, Emily Rodda, Isobelle Carmody, Anne Fine, Judy Blume, Diana Wynne Jones.

Great that she's becoming a keen reader, and fantastic that you're giving her so much encouragement - well done both of you!

I would recommend the series 'The Dark is Rising' by Susan Cooper very highly indeed (the first book in the series is called 'Over Sea, Under Stone'). I would also recommend the Earthsea books by Ursula Le Guin, and it might be worth checking out Alan Garner as well. Oh yes, try Jonathan Stroud, 'The Bartimaeus Trilogy' - fantastic! The first of the three Bartimaeus books is called 'The Amulet of Samarkand'. Good luck with your search!

Harry Potter- If you can get 20 seconds to talk on camera about the new book, what would it be?

Theres a scholastic sponsored program where chosen people get to talk 20 seconds on camera about the new book or just harry potter in general.

What would you say?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the last to ever be written in the Harry Potter series. Don't worry about what will happen when Harry and Voldemort meet in their final fight ... because ther real battle is before that.

Voldemort cannot die until all his Horcruxes have been discovered and destroyed. So where will Harry go to find them? Dragon lairs or giants' caves? And who will die on the road to find them?

Will Harry destroy the last of them before Voldemort realises his Horcruxes are being eliminated? If not, what would Voldemort do to stop Harry? Kidnap Ginny or booby trap the last Horcrux?

There is only one person on the planet who knows for sure, and she will reveal all on July 21, 2007.

harry potter is awesome!! twilight sucks!!!! HARRY POTTER RULES!!! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070706111341AAQYAe3&kid=P4NsPHHcMEghuEbL5DED&s=comm&date=2009-01-07+13%3A38%3A30&.crumb=

I'd say something to help break the myth that Harry Potter is a children's book.

"Just because it's about kids doesn't mean its for kids! If a book has to print a separate, 'adult' cover, you know that kids aren't the only ones who are obsessed. Break the myth!"

I can't wait for the bloody book to come out! Then I can finally finish the series and be able to rest peacefully knowing that I know what happened.

Then I will have to wait for the movies to come, so that I can see what the directors thoughts were on the book. Cause you know the movie reflects more on what the director got out of the book and not what the author originally intended.

-That is what I would say. . . as fast as possible!-

id talk about how hot ron was hehehe and how whinny harry is

the Harry Potter series are the only books I read, really. I haven't read anything that caught my attention more than they have. I just love reading about all this magic and how the wizarding community works. If I was a witch, I'd be the coolest, most fashionably-trendy witch (give or take a letter...hehe jk) I'd be the nicest as well. My favorite class has got to be wizard-history and dark arts. 'Expelliarmus!'

What is the poison Harry Potter is supposed to be making an antidote for but instead gives Slughorn a bezoar?

this question is from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

does the book actually tell you the name of Harry's poison?

The name is not given. It is a blend of several different poisons, since the point of the lesson is to figure out which poisons they are, and use a complicated magical theory called "Golpalott's Law" to devise an antidote to all of them at once. A law which apparently only Hermione, of the students in the class, understands.

no it just says its a poison.

no, its just a poison they don't specify since bezoars cure almost all poisons

What happens in the harry potter and the deathly hollows book?

Tell me what happen in the last harry potter book. I have no money to buy the book! Does harry dies, I want to know! And be honest!!!!!:-)

Leaving the Dursleys

The book opens with Lord Voldemort and his followers plotting to ambush Harry Potter, who is about to leave Privet Drive for the last time. Shortly before his protection at the Dursleys' home expires on his 17th birthday, the Order of the Phoenix arrive to move Harry and the Dursleys to separate safe locations. Before leaving, Dudley surprisingly expresses his gratitude to Harry for saving him from the Dementors.[HP5] Order members escort Harry, but despite using six Harry-lookalike decoys, the real Harry is identified en route and attacked by Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Harry and the others narrowly escape to The Burrow, although Hedwig and Mad-Eye Moody are killed, and George Weasley's ear is severed by a glancing spell.

A few days later, the Minister of Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour arrives to give Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger bequests from Albus Dumbledore's will: Ron is given Dumbledore's Deluminator, Hermione receives a book of fairy tales, and Harry inherits Godric Gryffindor's sword and the Snitch he caught in his first ever Quidditch match. The sword is withheld, however; Scrimgeour asserts it is a historical artefact belonging to the Ministry.

Search for the Horcruxes

During Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour's wedding reception, Kingsley Shacklebolt sends a Patronus warning that, "The Ministry has fallen. Scrimgeour is dead. They are coming." Death Eaters soon arrive. Harry, Ron, and Hermione escape by Disapparating and eventually take refuge at the deserted Black family home. While there, Harry notices that Sirius Black's late brother (and former Death Eater) Regulus has the same initials as the "R.A.B." who removed the locket Horcrux from the hidden sea cave.[HP6] Hermione recalls once seeing a locket at Grimmauld Place, and Harry sends Kreacher the House Elf to fetch Mundungus Fletcher, who admits he stole the locket and bribed Dolores Umbridge with it. Positive this is the Horcrux, they infiltrate the newly Death Eater-controlled Ministry of Magic by using Polyjuice Potion. They escape with the locket but are unable to destroy it.

When their hiding place at Grimmauld Place is discovered, the trio go on the run. After several months, they happen to overhear that Gryffindor's sword has been secured in Bellatrix Lestrange's vault at Gringotts Bank, although the Ministry is unaware it is a replica; the real sword's whereabouts is unknown. Harry knows the sword can destroy Horcruxes and wants to search for it. Emotionally affected from carrying the locket, Ron fears for his family's safety and is frustrated that Harry has no real plan for finding either the sword or the Horcruxes, and he decides to leave. Harry and Hermione go to Godric's Hollow, hoping that Dumbledore hid the sword there. However, they are ambushed by Voldemort and his snake Nagini. During their escape, Hermione accidentally breaks Harry's wand.

One night, a doe-shaped Patronus appears near their camp and leads Harry to Gryffindor's real sword. As Harry tries to retrieve it from an icy pond, the locket Horcrux tightens around his neck, nearly strangling him. Aided by the Deluminator, Ron returns and rescues Harry and destroys the Horcrux with the sword. Ron warns them that Voldemort's name is now magically Tabooed: uttering it summons "Snatchers", bounty hunters searching for Muggle-borns and other Voldemort enemies.

The Deathly Hallows

The trio go to Xenophilius Lovegood, Luna's father, to ask him about a symbol they have encountered several times. He tells them it represents the Deathly Hallows, three legendary objects that conquer death: the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone, and Invisibility Cloak. Harry is convinced that his Invisibility Cloak is one of the Hallows. When the trio become suspicious about Luna's absence, Lovegood admits she was abducted by Death Eaters. Hoping she will be released if he cooperates, he has alerted the Ministry that the trio are there, but they escape just as Death Eaters arrive.

Snatchers capture the trio at their camp after Harry inadvertently speaks Voldemort's name. They are imprisoned at Malfoy Manor, along with Luna Lovegood, Dean Thomas, Ollivander the wandmaker, and Griphook the goblin. Finding the sword among the trio's possessions, Bellatrix Lestrange suspects they have broken into her vault at Gringrotts Bank and tortures Hermione for information. Dobby apparates into the cellar to rescue the prisoners. Peter Pettigrew enters to investigate the noise and begins choking Harry. When Harry demands he repay his life debt,[HP3] Pettigrew loosens his grip, but is then murdered by his own silver hand in retribution. Harry and Ron rush upstairs to rescue Hermione, and Harry captures Bellatrix and Draco's wands. The group escapes by apparating with Dobby to Shell Cottage, Bill and Fleur Weasley's home; unfortunately, Dobby has been fatally stabbed by Bellatrix.

While at the cottage, Ollivander confirms the Elder Wand's existence and says that wands can change their allegiance if the previous owners are defeated or disarmed. The trio plot with Griphook to infiltrate Gringotts, convinced another Horcrux is hidden in the Lestrange vault. Disguised with Polyjuice potion and aided by Griphook, the trio gain entry into the vault and retrieve Helga Hufflepuff's cup Horcrux; Griphook takes the sword, and the trio barely escape with the Cup. Voldemort now realises that his Horcruxes are being destroyed, and through his mental link with Harry, he unintentionally reveals that one is hidden at Hogwarts. Harry soon learns that it is Ravenclaw's Diadem.

The Battle of Hogwarts

The trio arrive in Hogsmeade. Albus Dumbledore's brother, Aberforth, helps them to secretly enter Hogwarts from behind picture of of his dead sister Ariana. Harry alerts the staff to Voldemort's impending invasion. The Order of the Phoenix, Dumbledore's Army, and former Hogwarts students that are of age, arrive as Voldemort's forces, the death eaters attack; as a fierce battle ensues, casualties mount, including Fred Weasley, Remus Lupin, Tonks and Colin Creevey. Harry remembers seeing the Diadem in the Room of Requirement and goes there to search for it. Meanwhile, Ron and Hermione enter the Chamber of Secrets to retrieve basilisk fangs to eliminate Horcruxes with; Hermione destroys Hufflepuff's Cup with one. In the Room of Requirement, the three are assaulted by Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle. But Crabbe mishandles the powerful Fiendfyre spell, killing himself and inadvertently destroying the Diadem.

Harry glimpses Voldemort's thoughts again. The trio sneak into the Shrieking Shack where they overhear Voldemort telling Snape that he believes Snape became the Elder Wand's master when he killed its former owner, Dumbledore.[HP6] Convinced that Snape's death will cause the wand's allegiance to pass to him, Voldemort orders his snake Nagini to kill Snape, then leaves. As he is dying, Snape gives Harry his memories; they reveal that Snape was loyal to Dumbledore, motivated by his lifelong love for Lily Potter, Harry's mother. Dumbledore, doomed to die after being cursed by Gaunt's ring Horcrux, had ordered Snape to kill him, if necessary, to spare Draco from fulfilling Voldemort's task. It was Snape who sent the doe Patronus to lead Harry to Gryffindor's sword. The memories also expose that Harry himself is a Horcrux; Voldemort cannot die while Harry lives.

Resigned to his fate, Harry goes alone to the Forbidden Forest where Voldemort awaits. The Snitch opens to reveal the Resurrection Stone. Harry summons the spirits of his parents, Sirius Black, and Remus Lupin, who provide comfort and accompany him Voldemort's camp. He then willingly allows Voldemort to strike him with the Avada Kedavra curse. Awakening in an otherworldly place, Harry is uncertain whether he is alive or dead. Albus Dumbledore appears and explains that, just as Voldemort cannot die while his soul fragment remains in Harry, Harry cannot be killed while his blood resides in Voldemort's body; however, Voldemort's soul fragment within Harry has been destroyed by the killing curse. Harry is given the choice to "go on" or return to the living world.

Harry revives, although he pretends to be dead and is carried to Hogwarts as a trophy by Voldemort's army. As the fighting breaks out again, Harry covers himself with the Invisibility Cloak. Neville pulls Gryffindor's sword from the Sorting Hat and beheads Nagini, destroying the final Horcrux. In the continuing battle, Molly Weasley fatally curses Bellatrix Lestrange to protect Ginny. As Harry and the Dark Lord confront one another, Harry knows that Voldemort does not command the Elder Wand's allegiance. When Draco Malfoy disarmed Dumbledore on the Astronomy Tower, Draco unknowingly won the Elder Wand's allegiance; when Harry later captured Draco's own wand, he became the Elder Wand's new master. Voldemort casts Avada Kedavra as Harry simultaneously conjures Expelliarmus, but protecting its master, the Elder Wand rebounds Voldemort's curse, killing him.

After the battle, Harry visits Dumbledore's portrait. He tells the professor that he will keep the Invisibility Cloak, but to prevent anyone from reuniting the Deathly Hallows, the Resurrection Stone will be left where it was dropped in the Forbidden Forest, and the Elder Wand is to be returned to Dumbledore's tomb. If Harry dies undefeated, the Elder Wand's power will be extinguished with his death. Dumbledore nods his approval. Before placing the Elder Wand into the tomb, Harry uses it to repair his own wand.

Epilogue

Nineteen years later, Harry has married Ginny Weasley, and they have three children: James, Albus Severus and Lily. Ron and Hermione are married and have two children, Rose and Hugo. The families meet at King's Cross station, where a nervous Albus is departing for his first year at Hogwarts. James is the eldest and already familiar with school while Lily will start in two years' time. Harry's nineteen-year-old godson, Teddy Lupin, is found kissing Victoire Weasley (Bill and Fleur's daughter) in a train compartment. Teddy is apparently very close to the Potters, with Harry remarking, "He already comes round for dinner about four times a week." Harry spots Draco Malfoy and his unnamed wife with their son, Scorpius; Malfoy acknowledges Harry with a curt nod, then turns away. Harry comforts Albus, who is worried he will be sorted into Slytherin, by telling him that his namesake, Severus Snape, was a Slytherin and probably the bravest man he ever met. Neville Longbottom is now the Hogwarts Herbology professor and is close friends with Harry. The book concludes with the words: "The scar had not pained Harry for nineteen years. All was well."

Yeah, what Mhik V said!

Snape dies!!!! X(

sorry I seriously don't mean to be rude but shame on you for asking. now when you can actually read the book you already know what happens so you won't enjoy the book as much. I am sure their is a friend who wold lend you theirs if not public library. sorry i relay don't want to hurt your feelings.

Well, Yes; he does, but yet, he doesn't!

In fact, he freely gives his life when he realizes that is what he is meant to do!

Yet he lives; it is all quite complicated, and I believe the reasomn he lives is related to the the "resurrection" ring component of the "Deathly Hallows".

You should have bought the book upon first release; JKR had obviously instructed the publishers to not reveal the low setting of the opening price to her faithful early days' purchasers.

It is really quite a long story and too hard to simply explain in these few words - you need to read it.

I would say it is her best book.

As my daughter, who read it first here, simply said, "Brilliant!"

harry didnt die.. hermione didnt die.. ron didnt die.. even hagrid didnt die.. was a happy ending. harry ended up with ginny, ron and hermione ended up together. they had kids who were on their way to hogwarts at the end of the book..

Who is going to give the answer to the Harry Potter movie, see inside?

I am definitely not a Harry potter fan but, why would anybody want to give out that kind of information when they can simply go and get the book and find out for themselves instead of having ruined it for those who haven't read it ? Where would the sense be ? You Harry Potter fans, break down and do yourself a favor and get the book and stop asking for the answer. The question has been asked for days now, let it go, already.

I agree......... if your REALLY a fan you would want to read the book and find out for yourself. Plus you are ruining it for others who DO want to read the book. That book is so popular by the way......... I saw a man actually walking down a busy street READING it while he walked. He almost tripped on the curb. LOL

Here-here!!!

i am an HP fan, and yet i still agree, i have been surfing these kind of questions for the past five minuetes, trying to tell how i feel about spoilers....

And Nergles are true!!

SO TRUE, SO TRUE, I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU.

How do the characters in the Harry Potter series manage to stay so fit?

In the Harry Potter series, most of the characters tend to be reasonably fit, some skinny. And yet, how is this possible? There is no mention of any workout room in Hogwarts, and casting spells doesn't seem to be real activity. There are three huge meals a day, and the only sport is Quidditch, which isn't really active, just sitting on a broom.

How do you think all the characters manage to remain so fit?

Have you seen the size of that castle? There are 142 staircases!

I suppose that's why you only see a few chubby Slytherin's (Crabbe & Goyle) because their common room is in the dungeons so they don't have to walk up hundreds of flights of stairs to get there!

umm are you sure qudditch is just sitting on brooms??? i mean, they toss balls around, they dodge bludgers, they fly at incredible paces! there are tons of staircases!!! the north tower, where they have diviantion classes, they are sweating by the end of the climb! and the trip to griffindor tower!! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20081128185038AAJrYkd&kid=P4NsPHHcMEghuEbL5DED&s=comm&date=2009-01-07+13%3A35%3A22&.crumb=

Walking around on that huge campus all day probably is a good workout. Not to mention those changing stairs. Think about getting stuck on a floor where the only way to get back was by finding an alternate path. It would definitely not be fun.

Magic :]

Lol, probably magic, yes. (Remember how Hermione used to have buck teeth but with magic her teeth shrunk?) Or some people are naturally thin ... we don't all have the same body type.

thats a good question...I mean didnt you see all that food on their lunch tables...and your right..there days arent activity filled...so I agree with the person above...Magic maybe

Dude......they're wizards......

How do I import a saved game into Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban?

Okay, So.. I recently rebooted my laptop, and saved the Save folder from the harry potter folder onto my memory stick, i just installed harry potter and imported the save folder into the harry potter folder, but when i go onto the game, i cant load a game.. Any help?

Why won't it load? what happens? Any error messages? does it crash? does it just not do anything? does it freeze etc.

Does a second file maybe need t obe imported?

Try playing the game, with the disc in, but instead of double clicking the icon or .exe file to run it, double click your saved file, which you should've put it program files, or wherever you're game is

Failing that ,make a support ticket with whoever make it

why not start from the beguining??? The games not that long, i completed it 100% in 3 days!!!

ily Harry P xxx lol

Is the Harry Potter adult edition harder to read than the regular children edition?

I know there are two editions in British-published Harry Potter book 7, is there any difference in the text?

I know there is a difference in cover, but is the adult edition harder to read?....like using a more difficult vocabulary?

Are both edition written unabridged by J.K. Rowling?

no the text is exactly the same. the only difference between the books is the cover.

the only diff is the cover the book/story is exactly the same

If I'm not mistaken, only difference between the two is the cover artwork, nothing with the text

They are the same book printed with different covers and different fonts. There is no "adult edition", there is just an edition that looks less childish.

No, there is no difference whatsoever between the text of the adult edition and the children edition. The only difference is that the adult-edition has a much mature looking cover art.

No, it is not harder to read and it doesn't use a more difficult vocabulary.

Both editions texts are exactly the same.

They're both exactly the same, if I'm not mistaken - it's just that adults don't want to buy the books if they have such childish covers. It just makes it more comfortable for adult readers of Harry Potter XD

How many Harry Potter books are there, and in what order do they go in?

What is the climax of Harry Potter And The Order of The Phoenix?

I need to know what the climax in Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix is for a project in school. I have read the book and I love it but I can't decide what the climax is. Help please?

Any other examples of climaxes would be very much appreciated as well but I don't really care if you have those. I'm mainly interested in the one from Harry Potter. THANKS!

I would say the climax begins when the Death Eaters meet Harry and Co. at the Ministry, and ends after the massive Dumbledore/Voldemort duel. I know that's a bit long for a climax, but that whole scene- Sirius' death, the true realization that Voldemort really IS back, etc.- is what the book has been leading up to. Hope that helps! :)

Grr, I hate climax because books are too full of action and turning points to pick just one.

For Harry Potter 5, I'd say it's when harry agrees to make the DA, or maybe when he's excited about it. It shows the change of heart in him, and how he's now up to the fight ahead, and it also show that there are more people out there who care about defeating Voldemort than just Harry, Ron and Hermione. It's when the kids are ready to fight back against the Ministry.

i would say the climax is when voldemort and dumbledore duel. after that, there is nuch much happenig, the other events afterwards are just the falling action. the resolution would probably be: the misistry sees that voldemort returned.

How much do you think harry potter theme park tickets will cost?

Disneyland tickets are around $50-75 per adult or child. Do you think the ticket prices for the Harry Potter Park will be exorbitant? I don't know about you but my boys are already planning their vacation in two years.

I already am too! For a 2 Park Unlimited Admission pass it costs $85.99. I'm sure they'll raise the price though because the park is supposed to be completed around late 2009 which I'm guessing means the holiday season. I'm so so so excitied for this, it will be glorious!

And for the Disneyland tickets, I thought it was $50-75 for each park? I'm not sure, but I always thought Disney was a lot more expensive than Universal Studios. Universal Studios is including the Harry Potter theme park along with its other parks so it's more than just one attraction!

The Harry Potter theme park is not a separate park, it's located inside Universal's Islands of Adventure, so the standard admission should apply. Tickets are running about 56.00-96.00 currently, depending on if it's a child or adult admission and what kind of pass you buy- 1 park, 2 parks, unlimited entry, ect. Take into account some inflation to cover the HP park's costs- you might be looking at 65-110.00 a ticket.

it'll be abt d normal or regular fares..not 2 expensive...it's aim shld be 4 all kids etc.

Hopefully, the price won't be any higher than that! We are having the same discussions with our boys. Plans are being made to attend the opening. How exciting for fans of these books! I myself cannot wait!

it's going to be part of universal, but i bet they go up on their prices because they are still cheaper than disney but not as good

i didnt know there was a harry potter theme park.

How can you still enjoy a Harry Potter book when people have SPOILED it?

On here people were saying dumbledore died and harry defeated voldemort. It get's very annoying after a while and it makes even harder to enjoy the book. I also was wondering if there are going to be anymore surprises in harry potter series. If so how many? OH and plz NO SPOILERS. Thanks. And I'm reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets.

Sure maybe the big things have been spoiled but there are still a ton of little things in the books to enjoy. There are a lot of things that are revealed. Don't worry about what you have heard just read them and try to concentrate on what you are reading now. I didn't read HP until the last one came out and I had read the spoilers. I still loved it and enjoyed every word.

You simply don't listen to them. Just because you know what happens doesn't mean the book is no longer good. You watch Titanic but you know it sinks, that doesn't matter. In fact, it may allow you to see things that you normally wouldn't the first time around. And if you reread books, you don't do that to find something out, you do it because you enjoy the stories. Simple as that. Enjoy the stories whether you know what happens or not. Harry Potter is excellent no matter if you know what happens or not, so grab a cup of cocoa, light a fire log and curl up in a rocker with the seventh book.

I started the series in 2001 and was able to read the last three as they came out. It was very exciting. And there are so many more surprises for you like the relationships between the characters and the plot twist and turns and don't forget all the things you'll learn in the histories of tall the characters I count about 10 more surprises for you but I'm very sure that its more than that. Don't let the spoilers take the real magic away from these wonderful books. And don't forget that JK has a new book out of childhood stories from the Deathly Hallows you'll understand when you get to that book.

Happy Reading!!

The Harry Potter universe is vast, and the story is complex and has many layers, so even though you've heard some major spoilers like Dumbledore dying there's still so much more to the books.

You can take me as an example. I only began the series after the last book came out. I already read some spoilers but it doesn't take away from the experience, really. Some people even read it over and over again --- and they already KNOW what happens.

its funny that you complain about people spoiling the books but then you ask if there are any more surprises in harry potter.

Don't let the spoilers get to you, there is a lot of twists and turns. Enjoy the books as you read them. There are many twists and turns that i am sure many people have not said on here. Some times the spoilers are bad but if you sit down and dive into the world of harry it should not matter. Harry takes each person to a different place i am sure. there will be times you laugh with harry and times you will cry with him. there is not much more i can say with out spoiling it. just enjoy the books. =)

the fact that dumbledore died means absolutely nothing to you except that dumbledore died. The circumstances of his death, the events leading up to it, the purpose of it, the effects of it, etc. are all woven into the story. knowing the flat fact of it will not spoil too much. Remember, the books don't revolve around dumbledore, they revolve around harry and his relationships with the people around him.

you have to finish reading the series, while the series have officially ended JK Rowling published a book that was released a few days ago it was mentioned in book 7.

you have to understand that there are so many Harry Potter fans and it keeps growing even though it has finished. i had some slight spoilers when the last two books were released but i still read them because im a big Harry Potter fan.

in the end the only advice i can give is if you like the books read it, but if you dont like the books dont read them. hope this helps

I started reading the books after the second movie came out and while I missed out on the major surprises the journey of Harry and his friends kept me completely interested. What you have heard is true but there are so many things that happen that the movies have left out. Keep reading. The third book was my favorite and the movie does not do it justice. I can't even begin to count the surprises, every time I read the series I find something new to love about it. One more tip, stay off the internet sites about the Harry Potter series and cover your ears if your friends start talking about the books!

I hate spoilers too but they've never spoiled anything for me becasue I finshd readign the books very quickly after they came out. Trust me, you may think that they entire series is ruined, but it's not. There's no way that people could have blown every secret, though they may have blown some big ones, and that was every inconsiderate of them. Jsut read them and try to enjoy them as you go along. There are still some secrets and surprises in there. Read and you'll find out :)

well, the book series finished last year. I was spoiled, too, but I enjoyed the books, anyway. even if someone has said like 'dumbledore dies' you still don't know who, why, how, and for what. there is still a lot of stuff you won't understand until you read the entire book series. it can never be fully spoiled, because there are just too many complications.

Well when people spoil me like that I am upset.

But I don't stop reading because of that.

There are some more surprises.

But If i get spoiled I keep reading. I find that I still enjoy it because there are those little cute, funny, or Amazing parts that they don't tell you because they are minor. And you get to enjoy those for yourself.

It sucks that people told you things about the books before you've read them but there is so much more to them. There are a ton of more surprises besides the death of dumbledore. Many other large characters die, though I won't say who. Plus just the way JK Rowling writes the events are great. Even if you know what happens she writes amazingly and you won't be bored.

well you might be surprised by the relationships in the next few books ginny is very happy although she moves through boyfriends very fast in her 5th year and hermione is in quite a bind in the goblet of fire with rita skeeter but its all good but tell me how do you like the series? when you finnish the series check out www.hpana.com they have awesome forums for everyone of the books!

By reading it a LONG time ago.

Seriously me ad friends have been yelling about the snape dumbledor thing at school whenever someone's reading twilight we tell them that's how it eds.

I don't konw how anyone would expect to NOT kow what happes i harry potter at this point in time.

I hate spoilers, I try to stay away as much as possible.

The Half-Blood prince did not affect me the way Deathly Hallows did because people to me everything that happened. But in the Deathly Hallows I only heard one small thing about it, and it was much more enjoyable!

So stay away as much as possible!

Good luck!

Just ignore the spoilers and still enjoy the books. I remember my little sister reading the last chapter of the last book first and telling what happens to the character. I was upset, but I still enjoyed reading the book.

The series was concluded last year. I'm not going to say all that much, but if you know about what happens to Dumbledore and how the series ends, there are still some things left which might surprise you.

I find it hard for me to not read the last chapter and not spoil the ending hahaha... but if you don't like spoilers then don't read about them. and oh ya there are lots more surprises! the books are great! i love them...

there are always stuff people forget to "spoil".

it makes me mad that they do, but i'm guilty of it.

if those are the only two things you know then I would TOTALLY read the books.

Trust me, knowing those tidibits of information doesn't spoil the series at all; there's so much more to it, and you'll definitely enjoy it. :)

um there is a lot more surprises in the 6 and 7 ones.dont stop reading theres a lot of things you dont know yet.keep on reading or you will regret it!

it will stilll be good

itll kinda be like when you read books after youve already read them once - its stilll good and youre still affected

i hope you still ebjoy them becasue theyre GREAT books!

most of what people say are stupid rumors. Or misunderstandings. for now, let people know you dont want them to tell you anything.

haha act it out, you know "larping" live action roleplaying, be serious about it,

Just don't think about it. Besides the books have more details then the spoilers so you should still enjoy them.

You can't. You wouldn't enjoy them even if no one did spoil it.

Ignore the people who spoil the story, thats what I do.
