What is the main Conflict In Harry Potter and Philosher's Stone?

What are the Conflicts, Resolutions and the Climax in Harry Potter and the Philosher's stone?

There are many conflicts in Harry Potter, both external and internal

External:

-Harry is being raised in the Dursley household, with a pompous cousin bullying him, and the two proud, ignorant, and cruel parents who are his aunt and uncle

-Harry has conflicts with Snape and Malfoy at Hogwarts.

-Harry is seeking the truth, in such matters as his scar, the death of his parents, and the unexplained, unusual occurrences, such as the letters and owls at the Dursley home

-Keeping Voldemort from regaining power, and by doing so violating school rules, proof that Harry will go to any means to achieve his goal of the greater good.

Internal:

-The Mirror of Erised (desire spelled backwards) plays a pivotal role as the physical manifestation of Harry's great internal conflicts. The mirror show Harry's deepest desire: to be with his parents, but knows that this is an impossibility. Dumbledore warns him that "it is not wise to dwell on dreams and forget to live". This poses the great struggle for Harry: How does he eventually make that connection to the missing piece of his past in his otherwise dismal childhood without losing sight of what is important in the present and essential to the future( Voldemort, for example)?

Climax:

-The confrontation between Voldemort and Harry is the final climax, displaying Harry's greatest strength: love. Harry is able to defeat Voldemort, not by any spell that he learned, but by love. Voldemort can not bear such a great and terrible force, and disintegrates into the form of the weakest spirit.

Resolutions:

-Harry has some knowledge of who his parents and Voldemort were.

-Harry has friends who care for him and would sacrifice themselves for him (Ron in the Chess Room)

-Harry is able to see through the temptations of Voldemort, who almost persuaded Harry to give him the stone and have his parents back in return, Harry's greatest wish.

-The Philosopher's stone is destroyed, foiling and further attempts by Voldemort to return to his original self through the stone's powers.

-Harry now realizes that Voldemort's greatest weakness is love.

-Harry defeats Voldemort( for the time being)

Conflicts:

-living with horrible relatives and being an outcast/misfit

-dealing with being an orphan

-protecting the Sorcerer's Stone

-learning to be a wizard, and getting used to the wizarding world

Climax:

-Harry's confrontation with Voldemort

Resolution:

-Harry has friends

-He "defeats" Voldemort

-The sorcerer's stone is destroyed

Here is a VERY basic outline

Conflicts - Harry has numerous conflicts, youve got him and malfoy fighting, quiditch matches, internal conflict would be loss of parents,conflict with snape, fights voldemort at end

Resolution, harry keeps voldemort from getting stone

climax is the fight between harry and voldemort

The main conflict for the book would probably be keeping Voldemort from regaining his power

The climax would be when Harry finally reaches the stone

The resolution is Voldemort is defeated (for now anyways)

harry potter has many conflicts regarding draco, voldermot, his uncle ,aunt and their child, moreover he has his own personal matters, he also loosed his parents and so he has many quarries about their death too.

that harry meats voldumort eek

Who else feels that the Harry Potter movies started to suck after the 3rd movie?

The characters, such as filch, just lost the characters they were supposed to be.

they swapped the actual 'harry potter' feel for humor. i wish all movies could have just been like the 1st movie. it was so geniune, now it's all fluff.

I think the opposite is the case. The actors can actually act now and I like the fifth best so far, because of all the artsy stuff and the way they put a huge book into a pretty decent film. That was the hardest screenplay to write and I am impressed how they did it.

The first ones where too cheesy for me and even though they were closer to the books, it seemed like a bad comic version to me.

I suppose it all depends on what you look for in Harry Potter. Quite a few people enjoyed the later movies, if only for their increased sense of angst and teen depression. They were 'darker' than the earlier movies, which imbued a sense of childhood - they contained every child's dreams when it came to the book. But things happen - the original Dumbledore's death for example (he was much better than the current.)

Also, Warner Bros. probably wanted the movies to appeal to a wider range of audiences. Besides, you can't expect them to 'tone down' the later books, because that's how they were written.

I found that a lot of the things that were cut shouldn't have been, while maintaining that some of what they KEPT could have been cut. But overall, the movies aren't complete failures.

they lost it after the second movie. They began to make it all dark and stuff, which makes me more gothic. The first two movies, the settings were bright and stuff. Movies after that, they made it so hard to watch because it's all dark and you can't see ****. Also, the first two movies' dvd box are cool They made them open like a book. The following movies are just simple dvd box like any regular movies.

Basically sequels never are as good as the first one.

One very good example is Shrek..

1, was epic,funny,good plot..

2, it was okay just that it had it's cheesy moments..and it's still a litte funny, like when prince charming puts on the Burger King crown

3, sucked and bad plot twists.

Spider man on the other hand, is diffrent.

1, good..like any other movie that doesnt have anything cheesy.Great origin plot.

2. My favorite, good drama, great villain..

3. Cheesy.. its okay, i liked it to be honest.. but no better than 1 and 2..

In Star wars, all the movies where good but episode 1 was cheesy.

I do agree, Harry Potter did started to suck after 3

But i mean when you see the first one compared to the last one..

it's like the last one is a remake..

Classic defeats tech.

Yeah. You can't blame them though... because the book written by JK Rowling is longer and lengthier than the first volume, so they have to cut down and rush a lot of things to finish the movie in just two and half hour.

which is why i don't like the movie after third (yeah istill like third XD) it's progressing too fast.

But lucky they are breaking the last book into two parts movie. ^^

Hmm, I have to disagree with you; sorry! Harry Potter gets more dark and ghastly, and therefore the characters have to look on the brightside. I didn't see any laughing when cedric died, or sirius. I think they're staying true to the books; JKR is on set a lot of the time, giving the director tips.

I think they did an okay job on the 3rd. The 4th was pretty good. But the 5th. I wanted to write the directors a long list of my complaints. It was supposed to be Ron's big year in quiditch but they completely blew it by not even including it. I hope they make the 6th movie better. If not I WILL complain to the directors.

I like how they each portray (or atleast try to portray) the general feel of the book. I thought GoF was perfect. I didn't like OotP at all. And I hated PoA. But other than that I feel WB has at least made an effort in the movies.

I love the first 2 movies. They really stayed true to the books. But I didnt like the third. It felt too rushed.

Theres no way they can ever do justice to the books, but I think they are getting better. Half blood Prince looks amazing!

Nope.

I thought the third, fourth and fifth movies were better becasue they were darker and less about being a 'kids film'.

The first two were basically 'Home Alone' in a castle.

Well it got more confusing with all that stuff about those crazy monsters and spells

no- you got it all wrong- thats when they started to get good! the 2nd and 3rd ones sucked- 1st 4th and 5th were the best!

They just can't cram all the events into an hour or two..

i feel the same way. they dont make as gud movies of harry potter

not me i loved the fouth one and especially the fifth

no

Why do the American and European versions of the Harry Potter cover arts differ?

Also why do some countries have the book title "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" instead of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"?

This is the cover art of the first book European version:

http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/c/cb/180px-Harry_Potter_and_the_Philosopher's_Stone.jpg

This is the cover art of the first book American version:

http://www.jcls.org/bookblog/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/n5584.jpg

Just like the cover art (which always differ in other country), there is no specific explanation why the two versions have different titles. Philosopher's Stone is the original name and they just created another title to avoid confusion. The content is the same, so you don't need to worry which version you have to read.

What's the difference between the adult edition of Harry Potter and the kids edition?

I know there's an adult edition for the Harry Potter books, but what's the difference between the regular kids edition and the adult?

No difference in text. Difference is that there are no in-book illustrations and the cover looks more like an "adult" book.

The kids' version is filled with propaganda such as "join Dumbledore's Army" and eat "bernie bots every flavor beans!"

Plus the adult version is pretty pornographic with Harry getting it on with all the fine laddddieeess. That and the covers are different on the adult books- not so pansy-ish.

Oh, for bloody hell. This question has been asked many, many times. It's just the bloody cover art.

cover art and text sizes

The only difference is the cover art.

the only difference is the cover art! the text is the same.

i didnt even know there was an adult version??????????? plz tell me where i can get (e-mail me perferrable go to my profile pLz)

What do you think about harry potter six being moved to july 11th of next year?

I just found out that they are moving harry potter until july, and i was far from happy, some people are but i was looking forward to november, now what am i going to look forward to...twilight? that will never be a harry potter for me, so i was wondering what everyone else thought about this?

I was SO extremely upset when I heard this news on Thursday (August 14th, a day before my Birthday!)...My boyfriend showed me the article, and it was such BS. Its ridiculous how Warner Bros.' only "official" reason for doing this is to capitalize on the "summer season," for higher profits, for more money!?? First off, they already spent a ton of money on advertising (and releasing the first Teaser trailer, already late onto the internet AND in theaters *WITH* a November release date)!!! It didn't make sense to me at all, especially since other Harry Potter films have been released in November in previous years. It's HARRY POTTER! Regardless of when it is released, it will make the WB rich!!

Well, then the next day I read another article that made more sense, stating the real reason Warner Bros. moved the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 8 months back was because Daniel Radcliffe's New York Boradway play (with Richard Griffiths), Equus, will be running around the same time, and they didn't want a "family" film (which already has a huge fan base regardless), being marred with controversy because it's lead is starring in such an adult play. They thought that during press for Harry Potter, they would ask Dan about his play Equus, and the WB didn't want the two related in any way, so they pushed it so far back, hoping that the hype from the play with die down by then, they won't loss any potential viewers of the Harry Potter film because of this, AND because *maybe* it just might be a slightly better release date during Summer of next year than this November. Not to mention the uproar this is alreadyl causing for fans, plus the added publicity, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will surely be big for the WB, no question.

I hate that this has happened. It's absolutely unheard of, SELFISH, and as such a faithful fan of the franchise, I am very disappointed that this has happened, period!!! F*** the WB!!!!!!

I think this question would be better off in the movie section but I guess since Harry Potter is also a book, then this is ok too. Anyway, I'm a little bit upset but not really. Twilight is by far my favorite series and I am way more excited for that movie than I am for Harry Potter. I still wish that the Half-Blood Prince was coming out in November. The sooner the better. =]

Good grief! Movie section not the Books and Authors section. I know, I know, it's crowded with questions about HP and it's also a book. I'm sorry, but this is going to get repetitive really quickly.

I'm sad by the way even though I'm ranting. It's too bad they've moved it a year ahead.

I feel like someone told me Christmas is pushed back seven months. Warner Brothers isn't even sorry. All they care about is money, but they say they care about the fans. If they cared about fans, they wouldn't have moved it.

I was SO disappointed when I found out! Personally, I think Twilight paid HP off so that there would be less competition. Because as much as people love Twilight, Harry Potter would still make more money. 11 more months .... :(

I am extremely upset. They are only bumping the date back to boost 2009 profits. Together, HP fans can fight this. Visit my website, www.freewebs.com/p3princess for more info on what we can do.

I was SO mad! I was counting down the days. Now we have to wait 331 days until the midnight showing!! I can't wait that long. I'm so SAD! By the way its coming out July 17th 2009

OMG I am so mad! I don't give a care about twilight, and HP shouldn't of changed the date just because another big movie is comin out!!!

I HATE WARNER BROTHERS!

omg i was furious!!! thats like a yeaar from now & i was so looking forward to it! >:(

How do you take good notes from a Harry Potter book?

So far, I have read all the series in Harry Potter. I plan to read them again, but in pinpoint detail. For all those advanced Harry Potter readers, how do I take good notes so that I can truly understand the story?

(Please, give me really good answers. I am totally serious about this. If you do not like Harry Potter, please don't respond to this question. Thank You.)

Read the "Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter" series, it talks about all the tiny details that might be important and important details to watsh for like the numbers 7, 12 and 13, long fingers etc.

pay attention to detail. including the numbers and colors.

~~~ the number 7 is important. (ex. 7 books, 7 years, 7 weasleys, 7 stone obstacals,....etc.)
~~~the color purple

~~~the number 12
there are alot more. just read carefully.
By breaking down each chapter by characters and assigning
them placement and activity regarding momentum of plot.
Set up a chart similar to a genealogical one...like a family
tree. For instance: At the top of the tree start with Lilly
and James and Voldemort, then pull the lines down to
Harry, from Harry, pull lines down to Hermione, and Ron
and from these two you can have lines to all the Burrow
residents, etc. The things that you've missed in the previous
books can be inserted next to the names on this tree and
when you see the overview, they will fit easily into the plot.
This is hard to explain without a diagram, but has worked
for me many times with long and complicated plots. Hope
it helps.
I would do like I did for Russian novels. I made big note cards for each character and note cards for each scene. I managed to get 100% on the test for Crime and Punishment.
I bet you are doing this to see if you find clues to predict 7 before it happens. Good luck.
I love them. What i would do is every hmmm 10 pages review what you have read on a sheet of paper.
Since the Harry Potter series do you think anyone will be able to write a good witch based fantasy book?
I mean the Harry Potter series is still very popular. So can anyone write a witch based fantasy with out being acused of feeding off of J.K. Rowling's left overs? Did this one series kill the chance of another series? Not that I don't like the Harry Potter books and movies, I do. That is the problem. She has set such a high standard with the books, I just don't know if another author could to the same. Or if people would give them a chance.
I think that it has been done time and again. Your definition of good can be applied in many different ways. There have been many a couple of series that have characters who appear Potterish.
There is never going to be a good fantasy, but realistic book as good as harry potter.
Yes it's inevitable, before Harry Potter, there was like Silly Rabbit said the Chronicles of Narnia, and there was The Lord of the Rings, and there were probably people who thought that there never be anything as interesting and immersing as those fantasy worlds.
bet I can. haha, just kinding. it is gonna be pretty hard to write a better book, well, it'll be impossiable.
Definitely. That's the beauty of literature. There are always new authors coming out with new ideas and new takes on old ideas. Anyone who loves to read and loves the fantasy genre should be open to exploring other authors. I'm not saying they'll all be blockbuster sellers like Harry Potter has turned out to be, but some should at least be intruiging reads.
Have you read any of the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher? They're not exactly in the same vein as the Harry Potter books, but I've recently started reading the series and have become a fan. They are about a wizard and private eye, Dresden, and the various otherwordly issues he has to face. They're a fairly light read, but humorous and unique as well. Storm Front is the first in the series...start there and see if you like it.
Yes. there where several before this series, and there are more yet to come. No one book can ruin it for the rest of a certain subject or genera. The most, and only thing they should do is enrich the subject and give it variety and flavor.
No one shoud ever set out to make a movie or book that will be the end all be all of a certain type or subject. It is literatly impossible to do and is instantly doomed to failure. Each new book and movie can certainly raise the bar, but it shoudn't ever ruin anyone else's chance of creating another great story to add to the collection.
If that where true, there would be no point in ever reading a new book from a new author or ever watching a new movie that came out. The world is dynamac and ever-changing. What's hot today may very well be NOT tomorrow. I do beleive that J.K. Rowling has created a series that will last through the annals of time and that is an "instant" classic, but it won't ruin it for the rest of the population that will want to create a fantasy based witch book. People are always looking for the next book to read, and the next great movie to watch, man.
The world is not going to stop (for too long) over just one book or movie. Besides, there are people out there who hate the Harry Potter series, but would love a different book of the same subject. It's all a matter of personal taste.
Oh yes, most definitely. Before Harry Potter, there was the Chronicles of Narnia, which is also a excellent magical story.
There are already dozens of witch books. It isn't as if she even invented the secret child with magic powers genre. Any major money maker spawns dozens of imitators, take a look at all the "inteview with a vampire" clones out there, once those books sold.
People can still write good witchbased fantasy books - it's just that the story will have to be totally different from Harry Potter, that is, they won't be able to go to a witch school or have a boy who has been orphaned or something like that.
I agree with others, HP's success has actually *spawned* a huge number of imitators rather than discouraging them. On the other hand, you may be correct in thinking that better, or at least well-established, writers may well avoid the specific topic for a while since anything simialr is bound to be compared to HP, and possibly be accused of being a "rip-off".
Of course, it is possible that HP will go down in history as "the" classic sorcerer book, but I doubt it. The creation of a "definitive" in the literary world is very unusual, and books aimed at younger readers only rarely achieve this status.
Jim, http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com
wait for mine to come out, and then you'll see! :D
there might be authors out there who wants to write new books to make it big like JK, but lots of readers would think they copied JK, cause you can't write a new witch/wizard book without mentioning the slightest thing that reminds readers of the Harry Potter books.
There's a rumour that JK might write a totally different series about another character, I can't wait!!!
I think that any witch/wizard book after Harry Potter book will be compared to it. If the book series can break free of the "Harry Potter" mold, then it'll be treated as a separate series. There have been witch/wizard books before Harry Potter and there will them after. I think it depends on the writing ability of the author.
no...nothing will ever be as huge or grand as harry potter 4 centuries..why?this sort of stuff r only original n grand when it's the 1st...and the last...rowling made d rite choice to end it..w. harry n frens as adults...such a good way 2 end it...
well,shows like bewitched,tv show w. Liz Montgomery was immensely successful a samantha...in d 8 yr run..why?it's d 1st of its kind...
of course, people has lots of ideas and who knows,theres a person who can do more better..
it can always be done. all anyone needs is an imagination...and anything can come true on paper!! some might be, better some might be worse...but just because it's not to harry potter standard doesn't mean it's not good...right??
Of course! Let's face it - even though the story is good, the books themselves are fairly poorly written. I love the stories and own them all but cringe at times over phrases or sentences (especially in the American version of the books. They are appalling! Go with the original versions every time). All it will take is for a more talented writer to come up with a storyline just as engaging. There are also already heaps of witch/wizard type books out that are better written but less well known. Try Dianna Wynne-Jones for one.
What happens during the midnight Harry Potter book releses?
I know there's a lotta hype when the new Harry Potter book comes out. And sadly this will be the last one. I've never been to one before and I was wondering what bookstores usually do during this midnight muggle madness.
Each store decides what kind of games or whatever they are going to have. To find out exactly is going on you should call the store you are going to go to. Some places are not having a party they are just staying open late.
These are some activities that you might see at a party.
Trivia contests
Lots of people in costume and maybe a costume contest
Crafts like wand making, drawing, or making magic charms
Magic show
Reading from book 6
Scavenger hunt
Puzzles like crosswords and word searches
Face painting
Fortune telling
Potion making
free stuff. contests. party. blah blah blah. i've never gone to one and don't intend on going to this one. it's dangerous to be out so late for a book. pointless in my opinion. just wait for the morning and get it then.
yeh im going to go its going to be crazy last year they had a stand and they had a cashier and they made u pay and then they gave a book
I've been to two and its generally pretty cool. The fans just kinda mingle around the store or wait in line. The store I go to plays the previous book on tape throughout the store. Then at midnight they start passing out the books to those who have pre-ordered.
Child molesters stay up late.
well i went to barnes and noble at midnight when the last book came out, and they have a lot of harry potter themed games and stuff. sometimes you can win prizes! and there's a lot of people dressed in harry potter costumes lol.
when the book comes out at midnight, you wait in line by the cash register to get the book, they have them on shelves behind the counter.
hope this was helpful!
In the Harry Potter books: How do giants and humans have sex?
I'm watching Harry Potter 4 on cable and just realized that Hagrid and his woman are both 1/2 giant. But after seeing the giant in the 5th movie, I have to wonder how that could happen.
Giants are about 20 feet tall. How could this physically work? Is there some expert out there on Harry Potter mythology that can explain this? Perhaps there is some spell that transfers the sperm or something.. Somebody figure this out.
You are thinking WAY too hard. Pax - C
For crying out loud, it's just a STORY! And plenty of creatures in nature seem to manage, even when the male and female are quite different in size, so you never know.
i thought of that once it was a very scary thought
lol, Thank GOD they don't go into detail on that. Sounds like a Fantasy Porn subject. Ugh.
I think you've stumbled onto the next Harry Potter story. Good thinking.
I imagine they do so carefully.
An Invetro-Fertilisation spell possibly?
What would you be interested to read about Harry Potter, I need unique ideas for a writing assignment?
Hey everyone, for my college English class I have to make a blog. My teacher said I can do a Harry Potter blog as long as I find a way to make it unique from all the other HP blogs online. He suggested doing a certain area. His example was a blog totally on whether Snape can really be considered good or bad. I don't want to use his example though. Could you please suggest some thing I could focus on for my blog. I am very HP savvy so I could talk about any strange HP topic for a long time.
Thank you for ur help!
I think your idea is excellent. There ought to be sites, or at least fanfiction, which concentrates on this issue and to which you can link. I did a google search for "harry potter girl power" and came up blank, so it appears to be original, as well. Do it before someone steals your idea!
Jim, http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com
you could do something revolving around how dumbledore was basically in snapes words "raising [harry] like a pig for slaughter" determining if dumbledore is really as noble as he seems. because he did indeed keep a lot from harry and did basicallly decide that harry needed to die (although he wasn't sure he would and he did not) without consulting harry.
ppls thoughts and hopes about want they think happened between the end of Ch.36 and the epilouge. for example, how is everybody feeling the day after Voldy is defeated, the funerals, the weddings, and births. did the rest of the Weasley have familys? who did they get married to and how many children do they have? hoped this helped! good luck!!! =)
Which Harry Potter book do you think is the most controversial and why?
I am doing a research paper on Harry Potter Controversies.
One of my focus questions is the one i stated.
So, Which Harry Potter book do you think is the most controversial and why?
I totally disagree with most people here. The question is which book is most controversial, not which book started it all. The first created the big hype around the series, but I don't think is was as controversial as some of the others.
Sure, witchcraft is nothing to joke about with strict religious groups, but I think it is more about the demonic aspect of it. Harry used to be a normal kid and then, all of the sudden, he starts hearing voices in the second book and discovers, that he and his friends (Hagrid) might be evil.
Also, the sixths and seventh book are very controversial in my opinion, and not only among religious groups, but also among parents, who were concerned about their children and didn't want them to read something like this. That would be because people started dying, torture came into play, and a war was raging.
Personally, I don't think these books are children's books because of this either, but that it develops clearly into youth books.
Also in the seventh book, the whole Horcrux idea came up - an object that contains a split part of your soul. It can only be created through murder.
Now if that's not controversial, I don't know what would be.
The first one, naturally, because it created the whole "Harry Potter is promoting Witchcraft to children!" nonsense. Everything after that was just a tired rehashing of the original controversy, with a few new minor flavors added (i.e. the increasingly adult themes and character romances as the series went on, children dying, the "dumbledore was gay" thing, etc. All minor issues)
I'd go with the first for starting it all, the fourth because of you-know-who's rebirth, and the seventh because of the horcruxes (Splitting a soul into seven pieces seems pretty controversial to me) and the whole Harry dying and coming back to life thing at the end. the third i suppose can also be pretty offensive because of the idea of werewolves and dementors (anything that sucks the soul out of people is reason for talk) Google "Harry Potter conrtoversies" for some more reasons of why people find the books "demonic" as I've so often heard them described.
I think The Goblet of Fire was the most controversial at the time, because it was a childrens book, but *gasp* a kid dies! You can't have kids dying in childrens books! Personally, the 4th book is one of my favorites and I don't think there is any reason any of the books has to be controversial. It's all entertainment, people! anyone who takes it more seriously than that has GOT to get a life!
Good question. I have to say the first one did because it introduced the whole 'witchcraft' concept. It was more of a shock to people because there wasn't any other book like that before that attracted so many readers.
Other ones that did though were The Chamber of Secrets, because of the whole hearing voices part and the fact Harry could talk to snakes.
Then The Order of the Phoenix and the Prisoner of Azkaban were too because they had the predicting of the future.
But still, the first book started it at...
I think that Goblet of Fire is the most controversial. Two main reasons.
1. "Mad Eye" Moody that can see through anything, which includes the clothes of the students. As Ms. Patel said, "that eye should not be allowed"
2. A grown man binding and torturing and young boy, in of all places a graveyard. That is a bit twisted.
Maybe the first because it started it all. I don't think you could really pick. There is nothing unique about any one book that makes it stand out as controversial. Maybe the third because of Divination or the fifth because it is a darker book.
Probably the seventh, because the idea of a Horcrux is pretty offensive to some people (like the crazy ones who've only read online summaries but are trying to ban Harry Potter in schools).
What is the setting for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?
Hm, I feel as if there is way more than one setting through out the whole book, please no flaming, but does anyone know about the setting in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?
*SPOILER ALERT*
Well it starts out at the Dursely's as usual.
Then it goes to the Weasly's, and on the way it includes Tonk's parent's house.
Then from there on they are traveling around and it includes: The Minestry of Magic,
The Forest of Dean,
The Malfoy's Mansion,
The Lovegoods House,
#12 Grimauld Place,
The Hog's Head,
Godric's Hollow,
Shell Cottage, (Fluer & Bill's house)
Hogwarts,
The Shreiking Shack,
Various other forests (Named and unnamed) and places they stop along the way.
- malfoy's manor
- the dursleys
- tonks parent's house
- the burrows
- tottenham court road
- grimmauld place
- Ministry of magic
- forest of dean
- godric's hollow
- luna's house
- shell cottage
- gringots
- hogsmead
- hogs head
- hogwarts
- the shrieking shack
- room of requirement
- forbidden forest
- (king's cross) where harry was dead and met dumbledore
- hogwarts hall
sorry if i don't put it right
There are many different settings that the final book takes place in:
The great majority of these locations are different forests, including the forest where the three hid during the Quitich World Cup and a forest the Hermione apparently visited over the summer holidays with her parents.
They also visit Godricks Hallow (sorry if I mispelled that!), Diagon Alley, and of course Hogwarts. In the 7th book, the three are constantly on the move so that they are not caught by the death eaters. They can't stay at the same place for a long period time for this reason. That's why it's so difficult to explain the setting for this book.
Hope this helped! =]
The general setting is England...but there are so many different mini settings within the wonderful book (not in any particular order): 4 Privet Drive, The Tonks' residence, Hogwarts, The Burrow, Gingotts, The Forbidden Forest, 12 Grimmauld Place, Platform 9 and 3/4, Godric's Hollow, The Lovegood residence, The Ministry of Magic, The Shrieking Shack, The Room of Requirement, Shell Cottage, The Hogs Head, Malfoy Manner, King's Cross, The Forest of Dean, different places in muggle England and so on. Excellent book!!!
:-P
Oh, yes, there are many settings: Hogwarts, the Burrow, the Dursley's, Godric's Hollow, random forests, Grimmauld Place, the Ministry of Magic, Hogsmeade, Forbidden Forest, Malfoy Manor, random Muggle city, Luna Lovegood's house.
That's all I can think of at the moment, but I'm sure they are more. But the Trio are definately on the move.
Read the book! It's amazing!
Yeah, there are a lot of settings. Ron, Hermione, and Harry move around a lot, looking for horcruxes and evading Death Eaters.
First, Harry is in the Dursley's house for a very short period of time. I don't think that really counts much.
Next, he goes to the Burrow. Fred and Fleur's wedding is there.
After the Burrow, there's Grimmauld Place. They stay there about a month making plans.
They then go into the Ministry of Magic, where they get the locket.
From the Ministry, they go to the forest where the Quidditch World Cup was held.
Next, Harry and Hermione go to Godric's Hollow.
They go to the Forest of Dean after a narrow escape from Voldemort.
The trio get caught by Death Eaters, go to Malfoy's Manor.
Go to the Shell Cottage (Bill and Fleur's House)
Go to Gringotts and steal the cup
Hogwarts. Final battle, kill Nagini and the horcrux in Harry.
BASICALLY-
The most important settings, because of plot and horcruxes, would probably be Hogwarts, Gringotts, and Godric's Hollow. Maybe Malfoy's Manor. Dobby gets killed there.
it's in flashback mode actually the epilogue being the present time.the whole pace of the book is jerky,sudden,dark and unpredictable.
There is more then one setting.
The Malfoy Manor, Weasley Home, Luna Lovegood's home, The town where harry was born, random places in the woods, fields, etc.
How to go outside in Harry potter 3 for xbox?
I have a walkthrough of harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban. It tells me to go outside to get ingredients. But how do I go outside?
find a door or window and walk into it.
What system is the fifth harry potter game out and is it any good?
I liked all the harry potter games except the fourth. I didnt like how you had to select levels so is the fifth game like this or is it similar to the third where you could wander around anywhere?
Yeah, the game is out on a big range of consoles. The Wii by far has the best to offer, with the interactivity, it feels like you really are casting the spells! Well, only if you're mental...
But Half-Blood Prince should be quite similar to OOTP so no more goblet of fire muck ups! :)
All of them got a 5.0. I personally think that u don't have the freedom u had in the 1st 2 games. In those games, you could go outside, fly, go to Hagrid's hut. But, in this game, ur in Hogwarts and the Ministry for the last level. I think this game is better than the 4th one, becuase the 4th one u only had to press 2 buttons. With this game there's more jinxes and curses and u don't run around pressing the 2 same buttons everytime not knowing wat curse is goin' to fly out
I have that game for the Wii--it's much better than the 4th one. You can roam Hogwarts like you could before and you use the Wii-Remote and nunchuck as wands to cast spells. It was by far my favorite in the entire series...
all of them. and it got a 5.0 on gamespot.
How smart is the average Harry Potter reader?
I don't mean adults who read the book because everyone else is reading it. I mean how smart can these kids be? Look at the quality of their posts. Asking a stupid question in a complete sentence is one thing, but asking a stupid question in some hyper-hybrid language that would baffle the Sphinx is another.
I wouldn't complain so much if the Books & Authors section wasn't clogged with inane chatter about Harry Potter.
I dont know about intelligence, but it seems very lemming-like that everyone and their great grandmother wants to read the series, often just to "fit in". They are decent books, but there is so much out there.
I read the first hp book before it was a fad.
And people can be intelligent you know, unlike people like you who can't even spell insane. And the people asking the questions are only a tiny preportion of the harry potter community. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070705132718AAU8cHl&kid=B8Z6DkTNK2axEQktafZl&s=comm&date=2007-07-18+15%3A45%3A41&.crumb=
considering these are kids should you really be on here asking about their intelligence, if you dont want to read about harry potter by pass the questions and considering harry potter is a book then it fits perfectly into books and authors, personally i love the harry potter series and think that as you get into the books they get much more complex so fair play to the kids who are able to read them and keep up with whats going on.
Well there's always going to be smart people and there's always going to be stupid people. Just because most of the HP questions are asked by stupid people doesn't mean everybody is. And just because it's a popular series doesn't make me love it any less.
umm i started harry potter in middle school, still reading it and I'm in college making straight A's. I think a lot of people on here do short cuts. I do that when I don't feel like typing every word out. Either way I wouldn't judge anyone by their posts on here. They're probably excited about the next book coming out soon.
Just finished answering one Harry Potter question. ; )
Can you please explain the logic that lets you to question the smartness of kids reading Harry Potter (a book for kids, at least initially) and at the same time think that adults reading it "because everybody else does" are clever people?
Here's what I do when I come to Yahoo answers: I only react to questions that I want to react to. The rest I just pass and forget. Yours was really enchanting chitter chatter! I had to answer it right away!
I am a Sophmore in High School, and started reading the Harry Potter books back in the beginning of second grade.
I had straight A's all through elementry school, and A's and B's in middle school and in high school.
I started reading chapter books towards the end of first grade.
English has not been my first language.
Spanish was.
I moved to the states when I was only four, and by then I was talking Spanish better then many Spanish speaking adults.
I had to learn English very quickly, and pretty much was a master at it by first grade.
Then, in 8th grade I took French 1, and recieved A's all through the year. I then took French 2 in 9th grade, and plan on taking French 3,4, and 5.
I am also teaching myself Italian, and getting pretty good at it too.
I really do not consider me to be a stupid person.
I'm in the 7th grade and I guess I'm here to tell you how stupid I'm not. I have algebra on my schedule this year and get a 4.0 GPA all year. I hate it when people automatically declare me stupid for being well, in the 7th grade. And what I think, is that I'm smarter than most high schoolers. I take advanced classes and work hard.
PS, I don't think our posts are idiotic and I hope that you no longer think we are stupid. As you can see, all the people on here answered with correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Don't judge someone by what they look like.
In case you hadn't noticed, there are a lot of illiterate posts made on subjects other than Harry Potter. There are also literate posts made about Harry Potter. I do think that a subforum for Harry Potter would be useful. A forum I belong to has a Books subforum and a separate Harry Potter subforum for fangirl material. However, I don't think it's fair to say all the big Harry Potter fans are stupid. I find the Dogs forum much more frustrating than this one as far as stupid questions and unintelligible English but that doesn't mean the Chihuahua fans (for example) are all stupid.
I've been reading the books since I was 8. My third grade teacher recommended them to me. I'm smart. I was one of those kids in elementary school who got put in advanced classes after taking an IQ test, and the people telling my I was 'gifted.' There are a lot of HP questions and stuff in here, but the last book is coming out very soon, and fans are excited.
i'm 11 and have been reading them ever since the first one came out... i've gotten straight a's since 1st grade and take 8th grade math and english classes [i'm supposed to take 6th grade classes], so i guess pretty smart
Interesting.
Someone who seemingly loves to read, advocating a form of censorship.
I love Harry Potter and have read every book about 20 times. I get straight A's and took Algebra in 7th grade.
i'm pretty smart, thanks and i'm 14. i get a's in all my classes except science where i have a b+
We are extremely smart because we choose to immerse ourselves in a world of literature instead of sitting on our behinds and playing video games for half the day. And, If you don't want to hear about Harry Potter on this site then don't ask a question about him yourself. And as far as it stopping goes, It's not going to happen because all of the die hard Harry Potter fans on this site, including myself, outnumber you greatly and won't stop asking questions until we get our answers. So, unless you have answers to such questions as: Is Dumbledore dead? Is Harry a Horcrux? Is snape good or evil? don't expect the questions to stop.
i have an IQ of 140 and am a straight-a student in high school.
i agree with you, though. there are a lot of idiots posting on this site.
Well lets just say this...I'm in high school..Ive made straight a's in everything except cooking..baha dont ask..
I started readin Harry Potter in 2nd grade...
2nd grade I had a reading level of a 11th grader...
3rd grade the reading level of a 12th grader...hmm, odd for a kid right?
But by 4th grade I had a higher reading level than most COLLEGE kids.
I hear you. it seems like every other question in books and authors has something to do with harry potter. twilight comes in close second though. anyway, i have read both and i like them, but i really don' t get why everyone's so crazy about them. but i do believe you ask an unfair question. a lot of harry potter fans only read harry potter, and that doesn't make them stupid it just explains why they can't type decently. but a lot of other people are actually really smart; harry potter is just one of their reading choices.
The question of kids being smart has nothing to do with whether or not they read Harry Potter. The problem is today's culture. Ever seen that commercial (T-mobile I believe) where the mother is trying to talk to her daughter and the daughter talks in text messaging language? Text messaging and other similar elements of today's culture do not serve to mark a kid's intelligence level, though they can serve to make kids look less intelligent in the eyes of adults.
How much will the final Harry Potter cost after release date?
The seventh and final book of the Harry Potter series, how much will it cost after its release date?
I think its set to cost $34.99, but with sales you might be able to get it for $20 or a little more.
$34.99 in U.S. Dollars per Borders
probablly 30 to 40 kinda depends on the place
The list price is $34.99 but most large stores will be selling it at a discount. Most places it will be priced between $18-25. Just go to a big bookstore like Borders or Barnes & Noble or a place like Target or Wal-Mart.
It will cost probably close to $40 at local bookstores (ex: Borders, Waldenbooks, Barnes and Noble), but only close to $20 at places like Target and Wal-Mart. :)
CAN"T WAIT!
Who thinks that the character of harry potter is somehow stupid?
I mean Harry Potter is always the hero and he is not really nice to Ron in the film he is so grumpy.He doesn't look good. He starts fights with snape. Hes the Dumbeldors favorit. He always thinks hes the best in the fifth Part i think Ron, Neville, Mafoy, snape, Luna are much more better than Harry.And i dont mean the actors.
I think the entire point of the series is that Harry *isn't* all that smart.
He's not brilliant, he's not exceptionally talented, he's just lucky. That's not by mistake. It makes the character of Harry Potter extremely accessible to readers, because you don't have to be particularly bright to be able to relate to him.
If he was the "chosen one" AND smart AND always beat the bad guy AND Dumbledore's favorite AND everything else, it would be excessive and annoying and unrealistic.
J.K. Rowling made a very conscious decision to make him an average person, that is quite clear. That is why Hermione is so bright, why all of Harry's friends have special talents and strenghts that help him over the years.
It's to make the point that you don't have to be "amazing" to be able to do good.
Though, in Harry's defense, he did the best that he could. Yes, he was grumpy and sometimes mean to people. But look at how he was raised. He lived in a closet under the stairs for his entire childhood and was raised by people who hated him. When he finally went to school, he lacked the social and emotional skills to be able to cope with people being nice to him. He did the best that he could, I think, but if you grow up that way, you're going to have a hard time showing affection and compassion to others.
He was also a teenager. Teenagers are moody, that's just a fact of life.
And, he also spent seven years of his life being practically hunted by an evil wizard. Of COURSE he will be grumpy, you would be too.
But no, he's not particularly smart or deserving of all the attention that he got. And that was the point.
No seeing as in the fifth movie voldemort is usually controlling him... in all the other movies he appreciates his friends. All the characters are extremely well thought up and j.k. Rowling did an excellent job keeping us at the edge of our seats while reading the books and seeing the movies. Snape is an enemy to harry and bullies him so harry doesn't take it. No wonder he's dumbledores favorite; mostly because they are so much alike. I think all the characters in that series are magnificent; especially harry and hermione:)
Whaaaaat? Ha are you kidding me harry potter is the shizzz and what are you talkin bout he's mean to ron? No he's not that's his best friend have you even read the books cause maybe you don't understand im assuming your talking about the order of pheonix movie? Yeah he's goin thru a lot in that movie he jus saw cedric die and he came face to face w/ voldamort plus he and voldamort were sharing visions and feelings that's why he was mean to ron he wasn't really himself at the time remember he says "I feel angry all the time.." Yeah dude don talk bout my harry man die hard hp fan lol
I don't think Harry Potter is stupid. I don't think he's exceptionally great either. He's just an ordinary kid to whom extraordinary stuff happens. I actually think he handles himself well, given the bizarre circumstances he finds himself in.
Yes of course the other characters are some what more interesting. The thing is, Harry doesn't really have any specific characteristic. He's written in such a way that most people can identify him and feel like they are in Harry's place when they read the books.
I don't think his character is stupid...I mean if you think about it, he is a lot like your average teenager. He gets himself into trouble, he has a mouth sometimes, he's cocky sometimes, and he's moody. JUST like a teenager...which is what he is. I think Rowling did a great job of making him real.
the main problem with Harry is his temper.. He can't control it.. He's so sensitive about all things.. He's ego-maniac.. You see in the beginning of book 5 when he first taunted dudley and dudley retorts with the cedric thingy.. he was the first one to flare up.. well, he's not my fave character.. I like Hermione and Luna better..
It's just a book..
some people like to read about those kinds of things.
I do tend to read the Harry Potter series if I have nothing better to read.
But you can ask that same exact question about every single type of fictional book out there.
(i.e. TWILIGHT.)
Ugh come on. That's your own opinion. It's just a book. Also, don't base your judgment on the movies. The real Harry Potter is the one in the books. If you delve in deep, you'll find that he's a good kid who cares.
You forgot Hermione. She makes Harry look like a drooling idiot. I think the fact that he's not the brightest or best behaved makes for a more interesting story, however, since perfect protagonists are mind numbingly boring.
I honestly hate Harry Potter (character) sometimes.
I honestly love Harry Potter (series) all the time.
Harry gets to be way too angsty for me very often.
Me
i think you're somehow stupid.
WHY is the Twilight series suddenly being ranked next to Harry Potter?
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the Twilight series. But it is simply not as phenomenal as Harry Potter, and they are two totally different stories that can hardly be compared. So why am I seeing everyone say, "I love Harry Potter & Twilight"?
I too love both Twilight and Harry Potter. But Harry Potter is still my favorite book and always will be. I really don't find the their writing styles the same. I think they are both really different stories.
Oh and to the person that said Harry Potter WAS one of the biggest books. Newsflash! It still is. You'll be hearing about Harry Potter til your dieing day.
NEWSFLASH.....ITS NOT.
HARRY POTTER SUCKS BALLS.
ITS ALL ABOUT TWILIGHT SERIES.
In my opinion, Harry Potter is so unoriginal! I mean, harry potter beats voldemort EVERY TIME. The good guy always wins; how boring is that? Twilight is just so much better; Stephenie makes it seem like a vampire (or werwolf) could be living right next door to you. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080420185506AAiiJVD&kid=N5F5W0G_WWpiTQsGeTlF&s=comm&date=2008-07-19+12%3A01%3A05&.crumb=
I agree. I like harry potter but I ADORE twilight. My sister would burn her harry potter books to get to
I love Harry Potter and Twilight. What I think that is making Twilight as big as Harry Potter is one the people in it, two the adventure, and last it is a love story.Plus it is dealing with the magical world and the people in it are dealing with stuff we have to deal with. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080420185506AAiiJVD&kid=OrlLK0G4JHrBSQxb9e3y&s=comm&date=2008-10-03+04%3A07%3A14&.crumb=
Look, everyone has their own opinion. In the face of someone who sees it on both sides and has read the books, Harry Potter wins. care about twilight because that is ridiculous. Harry potter fans seem more committed. I hate it when people compare twilight and harry potter. harry potter is more of an action/mystery book for both genders. twilight is a love story generally for young women. yes they both involve unreal circumstances (fantasy). They are so different though. Let me turn this to the perspective of a http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080420185506AAiiJVD&kid=A5lxP0vbKlTevEdWQ1an&s=comm&date=2009-01-13+22%3A26%3A01&.crumb=
i personally like both they are different http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080420185506AAiiJVD&kid=OI56CFPNUTJ0TW4OOkFP&s=comm&date=2009-01-28+01%3A51%3A48&.crumb=
they are both magical in their own ways. Harry Potter being first out has a compleatly magical world which drives you as a spectator through the world of hogwarts. It is written well and easy enough for most people to read as well as kids in elementary. For most of us it is a great story from when we were in elementary. They are great and I still reread them. As for twilight, it takes a new twist on things. Not only does it put you in the story as bella but it also targets one of the fastest growing geanras in teenage literature. Romance and fantasy. The perfect combination. With it's enchanting story line and captivating wording in some ways the writing style is superior to harry potter especially as kids reach teen years. But harry potter targeted a more vast storyline and audience and an original story. Both are wonderful reads. I do love both harry potter series and twilight series. But the twiligth series does have a certain charm to it which really captivates and reaches out combining our world seamlessly with the world in the book. Keeps you hoping that one day you might be in the same situation as bella. makes wild fiction realistic. So in my oppinion I do like twilight better. Most of the people who say they like both have just gotten past one reading of both series.
They go hand in hand based solely on the genre of fantasy. But realistically the stories share no common thread except genre and readers which are probably all HP converts. I love HP more cause its much more in-depth and detailed. But, Twilight isn't bad.
EDIT: To those who same a similar writing style is evident. What books are you reading? Stephanie Meyer and JK Rowling could be farther away in writing style but they're are not similar enough to call it the same. I think its extremely different.
i completely agree
harry potter is original and pure genius
you haven't seen people waiting around at bookstores at the stroke of midnight waiting for the next book in the series
you don't hear about twilight on the news
who else in the world has come up with dementors, schools for witchcraft and wizzardry, quiddage, well-thought magic, brilliant characters, and the ultimate way to write a tale about the battle between good and evil? few!
now, who else has written stories about how your average girl falls in love with prince charming, vampires, and love triangles? better question-- who hasn't?!?!?
pardon my spelling and grammar
I asked a similar question! I think it's just because they're so popular, but personally..well, magic has been written about before, but the characters and plots in Harry Potter are so unique. I've read a lot of stories where a girl falls in love with a vampire though.
I love Harry Potter. I think the story line is amazing and the writing is impeccable. The entire series just seeped with depth, in my opinion. The Twilight series is a good book series but, in my opinion, it no where compares to Harry Potter.
I totally love both series!!! bt i get what you mean. people probably say that just because they want to say they luv both, but i agree that if i said that i would try not to group them together. it really wouldn't make anysense if i did.
They're both fantasy fiction series for young adults that are ridiculously popular, everybody's reading them and talking about them, they're both by female authors, and they deal with a world that is somehow "hidden" from our own.
Its not the content but the writing style in which both books are written. Also, both of them happen to be fantasy and have a certain charm to it that both J.K Rowling and Stephenie Meyer have...
I've never read twilight, but I was wondering the same thing.
My guess would be that they're two book series which are suited towards having rather obsessive fans in around the same age bracket.
Hope that helps.
hey i love harry potter 2 but i don't think twilight is anything close to harry potter. Its so cool we r both harry potter fan sorry 4 not answering ur question but when i seen u like harry potter i had 2 talk 2 u
i agree with you. i love both series, but hp is way better. but only the girls like twilight, and i dont think it is nearly as popular as hp.
Well they both are awesome stories. Stephine Mery even said she likes Harry Potter. They both are euqally great stories; both funny, exciting, romantic (not so much Harry Potter but...yeah lol).
twilight sucks harry potter all the way
harry potter is written better than twilight ever will be and twilight is almost at its finish
I think because they're two major fiction books, (With magical creatures) and since they're both so popular, people feel they need to compare them.
It may be because Twilight (the motion picture) is coming soon.
I'm guessing because they're two of the most popular books for teens currently.
Alot of people like both
people are allowed to love both books
both are good
I believe, that in a way, they are similar:
1. They are both a series,
2. Twilight is somewhat Science Fiction, as well as Harry Potter,
3. There are movies coming out for Twilight, and Harry Potter has movies,
4. They are both very popular
5. They have a somewhat similar story line, (For the last Harry Potter, first Twilight)---Romance.
6. Both main characters are 'Gorgeous'
7. Movie producers are expecting "As good as Harry Potter" reviews for Twilight
Thats about all I have, but I'm sure there are more reasons
First off, Twilight was in the news.
Second off, one person can like different writing styles or genre. As with movies, you could like the Ocean's movies and like Hairspray. Its like this everywhere we turn. We can like Mexican and Chinese Food. We don't just have to like one thing. They are both extremely good books, and the only reason twilight has gotten ahead on the charts is because the HP books are older, and they are also just coming out with a movie.
Personally, I'm a Twilight fan, but Potter is good too.
Harry Potter isn't the only good book, you know. Twilight seems to loved by girls, ALL girls. Usually people who read HP are ppl interested in magic and that kind of stuff. Twilight is an adventuous romance that applies tp practically every girl and alot of guys. My teachers and adult family members read that book as well. They're too old for HP and don't beleive in sorcery but they do believe in true love, which is Twilight al over.
Actually, I like the Twilight series more then the Harry Potter. I've read both, and personally, I think the Twilight series reaches out to more people. Most people go through a time when they are young, love struck teenagers, but i doubt anyone has ever been a wizard at a magically hidden school in england
Twilight is pretty much the next big thing since harry potter came out. I know that I've been seeing a big difference in all the new books that are coming out. They're almost all vampire books. Personally, I like Twilight better. I never got into the whole Harry Potter thing.
might it be becase now that Harry Potter is finished, alll of the Fantasy fans want to read another amazing Fantasy, and well Twilight fits right it, its a really good righting style, from howmuch i have read^^
idk I don't like harry Potter as much as Twilight but thats my oppinion. I also herd that they're coming out with a Twilight movie. The Harry Potter movies couldn't compare to the book so I will refuse to go see the Twilight movie
this is because the authors write similar. the way they write is kinda the same. they also compare them because twilight is the next big series. just like harry potter was...
Because people have the right to like both. I personally like Twilight more than Harry Potter.
What are some good Harry Potter room decorating ideas?
For the last week of school, several groups of students are volunteering to decorate empty classrooms with different themes. We charge money after school one night for everyone to visit them and the money proceeds to an end-of-the-year celebration for all grades. Me and my friends (4 of us) decided to go with a Harry Potter theme. We're each gonna dress like 1 of the 4 houses, but we're lacking in ideas.
Any suggestions?
When is the next harry potter book due to be released?
Does anyone have information on the next book of harry potter? The book after half blood prince is what I am interested in. Thanks!
It is speculated to be released on 7/7/07.
around mid-2007 supposedly. hasnt been scheduled for release yet though.
you can check jkrowlings website. but from what i heard and read the book is due on 7-7-07 but the movie will be out on 7-13-07 and if the book is released on 7-7-07 there will be a media frenzy.
should be July 7th, but date may change
My sis is a major Harry Potter maniac and she says that next year, around the same time when the fifth movie's out, the last book will come out as well. that's what she says.
we'll both see if she's right:)
Many think (or hope) it is going to be July 7th of 2007. JK Rowling herself said that is what she is AIMING (big emphasis there) for, but there is not an official release date. The book has not even been published yet. Let's keep our fingers crossed its real soon!
What do you think about the book Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows?
What do you think about the book Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows? The title, plot etc. Any way did u know that harry potter and the deadly hallows came 1st in the most demanded books. Any way wat do u think the title is about.
I love the Harry potter movies and the books are very close in comparison. I didn't like the last movie though, so I am anticipating a better put together one when the new one comes out. Now with the title, I think its a bit overrated how everyone is abuzz on this title. I don't want to know anything about it and I look forward to seeing the movie.
I am very excited! I looked up Hallow in the online Webster dictionary. It means to make holy devoted or venerate. It's opposite is to desecrate.
When I ran the Microsoft Thesaurus is gave me consecrate or make holy.
Sounds like maybe it is referring to deatheaters or dementors. Possibly Jo is referring to the death eaters as a deadly cult.
It could also be referring to the Horcruxes. I think it makes sense that anything that hold a part of a soul (even ol' Voldy's) could be considered sacred. The fact that the Horcruxes could only be made by killing someone could be the reason for the "Deathly." We also know from HBP that destroying a Horcrux can be dangerous (remember Dumbledore's hand).
Also, James and Lily made their home in Godric’s Hollow, which is quite close to hallow. It would be poetic justice if Voldy died where he killed Harry’s parents.
for book 7 theories and info on the books and movies visit my personal HP site
http://rpccstudent.tripod.com/
I think the title might be a clue that this book has something to do with Harry's parent's house, it was called "Godric Hollows". Other than that I think she just needs to finish it already so we can find out what happens!
Good title for a final book.
It is interesting because a White Hallow is a fictious plant in the Fantasy world. It is used for healing.
I think that harry will not die, remember this is a story about good (harry) and evil (Voldemort), and good must win.
I think that the vail will be important somehow.
I think Snape is a good guy.
I think that Harry will return shortly to Hogwart but then leave.
I think Ginny, Ron, or Hormione may die.
Victor Krum will make an appearence to fight by the other young wizards sides.
I think that Lupin had something with Lilly in school and will become Harry's Gardian per se.
And I could go on and on with theories.
I would say that it has something to do with Horocruxes. Hallows means to sanctify or to make holy. I think that in a way Voldy tried to make certain objects holy (or unholy actually since what he did was a perversion of life) and the objects and the way to get to them are deadly. So Voldy put the sanctity of his soul in these deadly objects. I could be stretching it a bit but i still stand by it having to do with Horocruxes and the journey to get and destroy them...afterall thats going to be the main plot point of the final book. With her though you never really know what the titles significance is going to be until you read the book. Most of the time peoples speculation about titles ends up being completely wrong. (But it still is fun to think about)
It's Deathy Hallows and I think it alludes to something dark and creepy. It will probably be the location of the very last piece of Voldemort's soul.
I don't know about Hallows, but I think that the final battle is going to take place at Godric's Hollow, where it all started.
I could care less about the title, though I suppose it is fitting since two of the three major characters are going to die. I am just waiting for the final book to come out.
I'm with that other guy the title is fine JK Rowling just needs to release the book!
Is there any websites for trivia concerning Harry Potter books and films?
I want to make up a trivia quiz for my daughters birthday party.It seems like theall the girls are into Harry Potter so Ithought that this might add to some fun.I cant make the questions up myself as I probably would have to ask the questions. What is the best yarn to use for a Harry potter tube scarf?
Im going to buy yarn soon to make a harry potter scarf, but I dont know what kind to get. Its gonna be a tube scarf, so the yarn cant be that thick, and I dont want it super itchy either. Also, any recomendations on knitting needle size for the yarn?
what i did with my harry potter scarf is that i used Red Heart super saver yarn, its a worsted weight and in one skein you get 364 yards for about $2.17. I would recommend size 8 needles with this yarn.
here is the pattern that i used in case you dont have one. you can choose which style you want.
http://knit.atypically.net/scarves/azkaban/pattern.shtml
http://knit.atypically.net/scarves/hogwarts/pattern.shtml
Try Lion Brand Yarn, its usually reasonably priced.
They have one called Wool-Ease. Its like wool, but doesn't feel like the itchy wool every one knows. This type you can use size 8(US) knitting needles. When you go to the craft store, just feel the skein. If it feels itchy to you, don't buy it. If you have a local yarn/needlework store they may be able to recommend a yarn for this type of project.
Hope this helps, happy knitting!
lion brand yarn is the best my mum uses it all the time !!!
im not a big knitter, but you should use some lion brand yarn. my grandma uses it and it is really nice :)
How much is the Harry Potter Deluxe Edition going to go up in value over the next few years?
How much is the Harry Potter Deluxe Edition going to go up in value over the next few years? I just bought one as a money making thing and was wondering how much it would go up in value. They only printed 100,000 of them (compared to 12 million regular US editions). Thanks for looking:-)
As much as someone is willing to pay for it.
unload this as quick as possible its just a craze with no chance of real money .find a mug who will buy it and cut your losses.
Probably not at all or minimally. No offence to the fans out there, but they probably won't be popular in ten or twenty years.
If you want something simple try coins.
Can you answer these Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban questions?
I've read all of the Harry Potter books and have seen all of the movies. I'm rereading the series again and popping up with A LOT of questions. Can anyone help? These are just for Book 3:
1) Why is Proffesor Lupin the only proffesor to take the Hogwarts Express to Hogwarts?
2) How long is the train ride to Hogwarts?
3) Why doesn't Dumbledore allow Proffesor Snape to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts? Surely Dumbledore isn't worried about the superstition of the job being jinxed (therefore preventing anything tragic from happening to Severus Snape)?
4) What does a Gamekeeper do exactly?
1 Lupin is put on that train to protect Harry Potter
as is later shown he is one of the order of the Phoenix
a group dedicated towards protecting against the evil
that he who cannot be named is guilty of perpetrating
2 Not sure if an actual time was ever mentioned
but it could be more tahn 5 hours
3 Dumbledore does not want to place Snape into a position where he may fall under the influences that could turn him back into a death eater, besides Snape excells at potions
and who better to teach than a master
4 He is responsible for the grounds and all manner of the creatures that dwell within
wP
2) How long is the train ride to Hogwarts?
ehh it leaves at 11 i think i forget and it gets there after dark so about 8 hours maby
3) Why doesn't Dumbledore allow Proffesor Snape to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts? Surely Dumbledore isn't worried about the superstition of the job being jinxed (therefore preventing anything tragic from happening to Severus Snape)?i think dumbedore is worried about snape getting hurt then if he dies dumbledore won't have anyone to spy on the death eaters
Perhaps some professor always took the Hogwarts Express, or maybe Lupin rode it because it took him to the school all in the daylight hours, quickly. (???)
I'd say the train ride to Hogwarts took a day, arriving in the evening, from what I've read.
I think Dumbledore didn't let Snape teach Defense Against the Dark Arts for the reason you mentioned (even if it's a ploy), and because Snape was simply best at teaching Potions, his specialty, and a position that allowed Snape a lot of leeway in knowing what goes on with the potions and students at all times...
A Gamekeeper does just what the word says, he keeps the game (animals) on a piece of property safe, fed, exercised and in its correct home. He also protects the game from any poaching. Very important on any large piece of property.
1-Professor Lupin is a werewolf,means the ministry is keeping a watch on him.If they found out he is teaching at Hogwarts, they certainly will interfere.It is either that or Lupin was told to go there to protect Harry from dementors.
2-The train starts at eleven'o'clock and the train reaches Hogwarts at night.
3-Ever since Dumbledore rejected the job to Tom Riddle,the job was jinxed and Dumbledore knew so and believed it.He needed Snape to stay longer at Hogwarts.
4-Keeps the animals in the grounds safe.
1.He is the only one who has a "life" out side of Hogwarts. he is coming in from London as are the students.
2.long enuff to get there.
3.Because he knows Snape has a proclivity toward the dark himself, and dumbledore is not entirely sure of him...either that, or he does not want to put him in the way of temptation.
4. A gameskeeper keeps the animals safe, controlled, fed, prevents poaching, etc.
1.I guess mostly for protection because of the Black situation, and J.K. Rowling had to put someone to repel dementors on the train. Otherwise he could have apparated into Hogsmeade and simply walk to Hogwarts.
2.I think 9-12 hours because they take off in the morning and arrive in the evening just in time for dinner.
3.I guess it was easier for Dumbledore to find a DADA teacher than a Potions teacher, that's why he had to convince prof. Slughorn to come back from retirement in book six because no one applied for the DADA post. I mean it's not like he never gave Snape the job.
4.Take care of the magical creatures living on Hogwarts grounds, he is also keeper of the keys, and as keeper of the keys, it is Hagrid's job to meet the Hogwarts first-years and escort them from the Hogsmeade railway station across the lake to Hogwarts.
1) Well, Lupin is quite poor. Maybe he can't afford a broom. Maybe Dumbledore ASKED him to take the train knowing the dementors might try some funny business. Also, he IS a warewolf, so maybe he is monitored more closely by the ministry and may not be as readily able to use other magical forms of transport.
2) No one really knows. Probably several hours as they typically leave in daylight and arrive at night.
3) More than likely it IS because of the curse. Dumbledore outritght KNOWS the job is cursed, and any teacher only lasts a year and he needs Snape for other matters.
4) Well, Hagrid is a special case, but a game keeper would generally keep the game....meaning he is responsible for making shure the school's animals are well fed and taken care of in case anyone wants to hunt them down and eat them.
Of course, these are just my personal theories.
Lol, you're full of questions. I have some too, but this isn't the place...
1. I think he was hired last minute, and didn't have enough money to hire a transport. And he couldn't apparate into Hogwarts, could he?
2. All day. From late morning to dinnertime.
3. Maybe Dumbledore doesn't want Snape to "get attracted" to the D.A. again. Inference is key. :P
4. Take care of the creatures in the forest. Either that, or Dumbledore made it up as an excuse to let Hagrid stay at Hogwarts.
1) It was his first year teaching and he didn't have any other way to get there.
2) i would guess around 5-10 hours.
3) Snape was a followerer of Voldemort and Dumbledore is afraid letting Snape teach the dark arts will make it revert back to his old, evil state.
4) Gamekeepers clean the field and tidy things up on the Quidditch field? Or maybe they get the animals (game) that Hogwarts eats.
1) JKR put Lupin on the train just to show the Patronus Charm. She always does this, shows you a little bit first, so when the main thing happens you know what is about. Like Priori Incantate, when Harry's an Voldemort's wands connect in GoF, you find it in the begining of the book, after the Quidditch match.
2) From 11 a.m. until dark , which in summer in England is after 9 p.m. so do the math - between 10 and 11 hours
3)Yes he is worried about the job being jinxed
4)At Hogwarts takes care of the magical creatures in the forest, training thestrals, etc
1) Professor Slughorn does in the sixth book as well. I don't know for sure, but I believe that it's because they don't want to travel another way.
2) It doesn't say. All it says is that it is dark when they gets there, it's dark outside. I assume they get on the train in the early morning, so 12 hours or so I assume.
3) Dumbledore knows the jinx is ever since he refuse Tom Riddle the job, and giving Snape the job won't slove anything. I suppose it's because he wants to keep Snape on a short leash.
4) I'm not sure. Some English term I don't understand (I'm American).
Comparing Harry Potter series and The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan?
Do you think Harry Potter and The Lightning Thief are similar? What are some similarities and differences? Which book do you prefer?
i dont see any line we could see for a comparison
maybe you could tell me if you see one
Well, sure. All books have something in commen. I personally prefer the lightning thief. I find Harry Potter annoying. Not the book, the character. I love the book. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070820110615AAkRkUU&kid=H6ZvIU2_DUUItABOlu3N&s=comm&date=2008-09-01+09%3A09%3A56&.crumb=
What are some important facts and details in the 1st Harry Potter Book?
My goddaughter (7 years old) gave me her favorite series, Harry Potter, and I promised her that I would read the first book by the next time I saw her. Well, I didn't read it, and I see her in a couple of days, and I need some some to convince her that I read it. Don't get me wrong, I had all intentions of reading the book, but I just never got around to it.
What can you tell be about "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"?
An eleven year old boy called Harry who has dark, messy hair and glasses as well as a lightning shaped scar on his forehead lives a miserable life with his aunt, uncle and fat cousin. One day Harry gets a letter and he is invited to come and study at a school called Hogwarts, where he is to learn to use magic. Harry is a wizard, one of a race of people (witches and wizards) who live in secret alongside ordinary people (who are called Muggles).
When he gets to Hogwarts he realises that he is actually famous because when he was a baby the most evil wizard of all time (Voldemort) tried to kill him but failed (hence the lightning shaped scar). Since then Voldemort has disappeared and so Harry is sort of the saviour of the wizarding world.
He meets two best friends, Ron and Hermione (Ron is red-haired and a bit of a loser and Hermione is bushy-haired and very very clever but annoying).
At the end of a year of potion-making, learning to use wands and flying broomsticks (playing the wizard version of football, called Quidditch), Harry and co. go through a secret place in the school that leads them to the Philosopher's Stone (if you're American they've probably called it the Sorcerer's Stone in your edition). This stone gives eternal life to the user and Harry encounters the evil wizard Voldemort there, trying to steal the stone. He manages to stop Voldemort getting the stone and Voldemort disappears (for now), leaving Harry okay and Dumbledore (the headmaster of Hogwarts + wise old man) very pleased with him.
The end.
You really should just read the book, the first one was short and simple, written at about a 11 year old reading level, it took my nine year old a day to read, and me just a few hours. Later in the series they get longer, but the first few are a really easy read.
This is a great opportunity for you to share one of her interests, Harry Potter is one of my daughters interests that I love just as much as she does (if not more). What a shame if you cheat her out of really sharing this with you.
Umm,it only takes a day to read it...
Why don't you read it now? It isn't that big. Anyway, shame on you god-mother, for a) lying and b) not reading one of the best books evar!
This an easily read short book. You are her god mother for goodness sake. Read the book!
What is the significance of the Hallows in Harry potter and the Deathly Hallows?
What is the significance of the Hallows in Harry potter and the Deathly Hallows? I mean, harry could have killed voldemort without even knowing about the hallows?
yes he could've killed voldy without knowing about the hallows, to kill voldy he had to destroy the HORCRUXSES. the hallows were completely different, they were the cloak, the wand , and the stone.and whoever posessed all three was master of death
♥
Each book introduces some new, powerful magical artifact - except for 3, which introduces the concept of animagus. The Deathly Hallows were that thing in book 7, the "concept" around which the story was based. The Deathly Hallows could have been removed from the story without affecting the outcome - but it was a thing to attract the interest of those eager to discover some new thing about Rowling's magic. The same is even true of #4, because the cup, not at issue in most of the story, is important for HP to get into that mess (the triwizard tournament) and the vehicle for the confrontation with Voldy as well.
Jim
⌘ http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com ⌘
knowing about them gave Harry the advantage of knowing what Valdemort was up to, to plan ahead. Also gave him the knowledge that Valdemort would have an unjustified sense of superiority by possessing the wand. I think that made a difference.
I mean, in every book the main character could just take a cannon and shoot and the bad guys house, but that is not how things go down :-) stories need content.
virtue
Voldemort split up his soul into the Hallows.
So even if Harry tried to kill Voldy, he wouldn't have succeeded. He would live with out a body, like he did before. So Harry had to destroy the Hallows so Voldy had no where to run to; he'd just die.
What are your thoughts on the new harry potter being pushed back to next year?
What is everyones thoughts about the next Harry Potter which was meant to be coming out this November being pushed back to next year?!
Awh i was well lookin forward to watching it! Looks awesome!
Also has it been pushed back in England aswell? Or is it just the USA? Confused here!
Well, actually, I thought it was clever for Warner Bros. to that: postponing to mid-summer. Because, who watches Harry Potter really?
Young Adults. . .
And when do they have time? Summer vacation. . .
With that said, Harry Potter might make more than it has for the last 7 years. With the highest grossing with the first movie: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: $317,575,550 domestic.
W.B. trying to bring back the fundamental of the worth of the movie.
I HATE IT. NO MATTER WHEN THE RELEASE IT THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE TONS OF MONEY BUT I LIKE TO GO AROUND X MAS AND THE FACT THAT ITS XMAS IN THE MOVIE TOO IS FUN. I LOVE THE X MAS TREES AND PRESENTS IN THE MOVIE. AND IVE BEEN DOING IT FOR 5 YEARS NOW :< http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080914112350AAjGN8Y&kid=LYxdD0m7End4NTWghVmY&s=comm&date=2008-09-27+20%3A05%3A29&.crumb=
This has nothing to do with the writers strike first of all, the movie is already complete. I personally disagree with them and I think that its going to hurt them. Im going to go see it whenever it comes out, but from of the things that I have heard from the die hard fans they will be boycotting WB. I think that when it comes out everyone will go to see it just as if it came out in november, and everyone who is saying they are not is just talking smack. Like I said, I dont like it, but im not going to go ape **** about it, its just a movie, and the books are way better anyways, plus there will be a new book in Dec- not harry potter, but a tales of beetle the bard, so you know dont pout all you 13 yo's at least you got something to look foward to in the summer right.
The film was pushed back worldwide. Warner Brothers talked about the writers-strike this spring and that there aren't many films with blockbuster-potential next year, so they pushed back Potter. Sounds a bit wired if you think about the fact that Warner Brothers released The Dark Knight this year, which is the biggest success in their history. I guess they earned enough for the next decade
It's been pushed back in England as well. There were rumours that it was still coming out in the USA in November though. :)
I was devastated when I saw it, I had just come back from a holiday and while I was away my friends had done a vote on who should tell me because I'm a very obsessive HP fan. They thought I would get really mad but I just cried... :'(
Grrr. I had a countdown on my HP website and everything! They shouldn't go around saying "Ok. The next movie comes out in November 2008. No wait JULY 2009!!!" They make us look forward to seeing it in just a couple months and then they push it back almost a YEAR! It made me soo mad! >.< Hm. I think they would have pushed in back in England too. Otherwise, the die hard HP fans [myself included] would go running to England to see the movie. I hope that helps!
Hey, yeah its really annoyed me! Im english and it was supposed to be released something like November 24th but now its next year! it's so annoying i am such a die-hard fan and crave it.
I am outraged as well! I was already making plans to go see it! Warner bros pushed it back because of Twilight coming out around that time. It would pull money away from the HP movie supposedly.
The desicion reall pissed me off! I wanted to see the new Harry Potter movie so bad!!! I'm a total fan!! i can't wait untill next summer though. Gives me something to look forward to.
I think that this is the worse idea WB has had ever! It's being pushed back everywhere, so just hopping on a plane to England to see it won't work :(
i'm outraged! seriously! i was very much looking forward to the november release date. damn movie people...
i don't really care...
