Hunted (House of Night, Book 5) By PC Cast

The fifth installment in the bestselling vampyre series House of Night continues to make our hearts pound faster. The title is Hunted. Zoey Redbird let us into her world again where everything looks like our real world except that there are vampyres. Sounds like Twilight? Well, yes, the vampyre angle is very Twilight but not totally.

I enjoy reading this series more because of the way Zoey tells us about her adventures and her inner views about growing up, being a teenager and relating with friends and enemies. She speaks like a normal teenager and it is just interesting how a normal teenager is the most special vampyre.

How will you react if you're just living your life, going to high school and doing normal stuff high school girls do and then suddenly you learn that you are a vampyre and a part of a group of vampyres? I remember Harry Potter when he realized that he's a wizard. But the House of Night series is more riveting because it uses first-person narration.

I don't feel that I am reading when I follow Zoey's storry. I feel like I am listening to a friend who's telling me a very interesting story. Yes, Zoey has become a friend to me already. And who wil not? After 4 installments, readers really feel that they know Zoey through and through.

I think the reason why House of Night fans have this kind of feeling about Zoey is because Zoey lets us into her world and telling us how it feels to be like her. Whenever I open any of the book in the series, I feel as if I am Zoey and I am the one who's fighting enemies and having fun with my fellow fledgings. When I read it, I feel that I am a normal person and at the same time, I feel that I am extra-special with special adventures and special friends.

That's the unique feeling that the series give its readers. No wonder it continues to be the popular young adult novel series in the market today.

Here's one good Hunted (House of Night book 5) review that you may want to read.

8 Spiritual Principles in Writing a Devotional Part II

In Part one, I addressed the technical side of writing a devotional, how to pick your scripture, find your overall theme, do your research, draw your conclusion, personal application, write it out and Edit it. In this article I want to address the spiritual side of writing a devotional that deals mainly with preparing your heart and your mind when writing your devotional and the value that devotionals carry.

I put together eight principles to spiritually prepare your heart and mind for writing a devotional:

1. Pray: Before you write a devotional you must first pray before during and after and ask God to not only speak to you about the passage you will be writing about but also prepare your own heart to receive it. The majority of devotionals you will write are meant for you first. Prayer also helps you to be more led by the Holy Spirit and enables you to have spiritual understanding of the passages and themes you are writing about.

2. Ponder: Pray for God to help you ponder it for a few minutes so that you can see something you've never seen before in the passage or through your research or possibly receive something you already know but need to digest to fully to understand it for your self. It's one thing to think or assume that we know something but it's another to really understand fully what something means.

3. Piece: As you are in prayer ask God to help you piece it together and see the bigger picture, this will help you have a smooth flow from introduction to conclusion. When you are able to see the big picture from beginning to end, it is much easier to communicate it on paper.

4. Practical: In writing devotionals that speak not only to you but to others; another important principle is to keep it practical. Over-spiritualizing by talking in platitudes although it may sound nice and spiritual it does not help the average person apply it practically to their own life today. Keep it simple, make it practical and applicable to every day life and you will find it is more affective..

5. Personalize: We've already talked about personal application but personalizing your devotional means to include personal information about you which is okay as long as the focus stays on the overall theme and the scripture passage. Personalizing is optional but for the record I have personalized devotionals and they are great in showing that the writer is a real person that experiences the same issues as anyone else but like I said, you must make sure you stay on point and not make it more about you than the passage you are writing about.

6. Point: No matter what the overall theme is it should always, always point to Jesus! I can't stress this enough. You can stress your theme for example "Having Faith through Life Storms" using faith as your focus but make sure that Christ, our Heavenly Father and/or His Word is weaved throughout the text. This creates a wholesome dependence on Christ and not on the writer or on the action but on the person who gives us everything we need, Jesus Christ Himself. In doing this we are pointing them to the one who is our healer, our provider and our portion.

7. Personal Prayer: After you end your devotional with a conclusion you can add a personal prayer where you take the conclusion and turn it into a prayer by rewriting it in a way that is personal. For example: If the conclusion is to trust God through life's storms, my prayer may sound like this: "Dear Lord, no matter what I'm going through I know that you are faithful and will see me through this. Help me to trust you even when I don't understand and help me to cling to you even when I don't feel like it. Thank you Lord for loving me and hearing my prayers. Amen"

8. Precious: Remember in the end that writing devotionals is personal between you and God and whether others read it or not, it is precious because it comes from your heart and that makes it precious to God also. David wrote the Psalms with love and devotion and God called him a man after his own heart. Isn't that all you really want in the end? I know that I do.

I hope these spiritual principles will help give you more to work with when writing your devotionals. The most important principle is to have fun and enjoy writing them. May the Lord bless your devotional endeavors!

Four Hypnotic Sales Techniques

What do we mean "Under the Radar"?

Getting under the radar is a way of sneaking in through the back door without anyone noticing. The Stealth Fighter plane is famous for evading the enemy's radar systems so it can drop its bombs with precision accuracy. Harry Potter is legendary for his invisible cloak which allows him to sneak anywhere un-noticed.

Now if you, like me, believe wholeheartedly in ethical selling. In other words only selling something to someone who genuinely needs it and can afford it. Without a hesitation of doubt...then you need some selling under the radar tips because you can use them with the belief that you're legitimately helping the customer along the path of the sale.

Now that's really important to get off my chest because it's true to say that I honestly believe that if you have the slightest doubt whether to proceed with the sale, then you shouldn't. Find a customer who truly needs your product or service.

Just like a rolling stone...someone needs to give it a little push first and then it travels a path. Customers sometimes need a little push along the right path and these tips will help you do just that.

Lets start with "under the radar" tip number 1, truisms.

Truisms

A truism is a statement or sentence that is, without doubt, true and most people will find themselves agreeing to it. They are a great calming skill and all you're doing here is confirming to the customer what is true in their minds and allowing them to go into a state of comfort where there are no hidden surprises.

Simply say things that are true for the customer, Keep them global at first such as

"Its a beautiful day today isn't it?"

"Parking's a bit tricky in town at this time?"

Then later on you could use some truisms you've found out about the customer such as:

"Your family is a real priority to you aren't they?"

"From the information on the form you obviously keep yourselves fit and healthy"

"Getting a service that will save you time is important to you, don't you think?"

As the customer relaxes and sees that your product is right for them...introduce some specific truisms such as:

"So you agree your budget for the package is just under £600 per month?"
"You'd like to complete the forms now?"

Notice that I've tagged some of the questions at the end with what we call a 'yes tag'.

Yes Tags

These are little words at the end of the statements to get a positive "yes" from the customer. Useful to gain a commitment to move the sale along. Yes tags come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and I just know you've used them before without knowing what they were called...haven't you?

Examples of yes tags...

Haven't you

Aren't you

Don't you

Isn't it?

Won't you.

Just put one at the end of a truism, statement and your customer will want to nod their head in agreement.

But I'm sure you'll agree, won't you, that overuse is dangerous Chocolate is lovely in small doses - too much and you can become very queasy indeed...

...don't you think?

Embedded Suggestions

This one does sound rather rude, doesn't it? And this is the under the radar tip that is closely related to hypnotic selling.

You see, so much in our lives is automated. Our bodies and minds are on auto pilot constantly as we try to make sense of the signals we're being bombarded with continuously. We do this because if we had to consciously focus on absolutely everything, we'd probably explode. Our conscious mind can only deal with between 5 and 9 senses at any given time, much less if you're a man!

So everything else is dealt with admirably by our sub-conscious or behind the scenes brain processing. This is why brands are so powerful. We see Robinsons on the juice bottle and automatically buy it. We're in the pub and see Stella on show and order a pint without giving it anymore thought, well I do anyway.

This rule of life helps us to understand why all these under the radar tips work but specifically embedded commands.

These are words or short phrases that we slip in with our normal conversation that are ignored but subliminally processed by our customers to have an effect. Here's some examples:

"I, like many other people, enjoy driving"

"Buy now, Mr Smith, you're wondering what benefits this product gives you..."

"You, like me, enjoy getting value for your money"

"I'm hoping you'll want to place an order right now, but before you do..."

"Buy the way, let's have a quick summary of the benefits of this plan."

So there are 5 examples for you of embedded suggestions. You'll notice, like many other people reading this article, that I mis-spelt buy. It should be by. But the reason I did this was to show you that some words have more than one meaning and the brain has to process all the various meanings before it arrives at the right one. So the customer is thinking about buying without knowing it.

Also I really want the customer to like me, so I embedded the phrase in and at the same time drove home the fact that I like lots of people. The other phrases are just suggestions that I openly stated.
These all slip under the radar or into the sub conscious and start working for you.

Negation

These are similar to the previous tip but slightly different so they need a separate category. If I said to my 8 year old son, Euan...don't worry about the carol concert this afternoon, what do you think he'll think? That's right he will worry because I've suggested he shouldn't but just by suggesting this I've reminded him of his fears.

Likewise if I said to you now please don't ever consider eating an apple. You'll consider eating an apple. You can't stop yourself because your brain has processed the positive before obeying the don't command.
Use this in sales to make suggestions that you don't want to be accused of later. For example:

"Don't think for a moment that you need to decide to go ahead today"
"I'll not be asking for the order today"

Good aren't they? You don't have to get excited about all of this right now, do you?

Homeschooling High School - What to Do With a Voracious Reader

One of the features we used in our homeschool student's college applications was a high school reading list. It was a partial list of the books that they read throughout their high school years. I say "partial" because we never did a very good job keeping up with the number of books they actually read. My kids are voracious readers and, consequently, our books lists seemed very impressive to the colleges. It was how my kids loved to learn. I couldn't KEEP them away from books. Even in college, when my youngest came home for vacation he decided to read Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, CS Lewis, and Agatha Christie. He didn't just read ONE of each of those, he read the whole SERIES of each one. That's what he loves to do, and that's why his book list looked like it did.

When they were in high school studying Christian Apologetics, I set 35 books in front of the kids, and told them to read for just 1-2 hours a week from those books. I was expecting them to read, perhaps, ten during the year. Instead, they read them ALL. It was amazing to me, but that's what they loved to do - and they still love it.

Early on, our strategy was to use a literature-based curriculum and then just pile it on. We started homeschooling with Sonlight Curriculum. I supplemented using Jim Trelease Read Aloud Handbook. By the time they were in high school, we included book lists from The Well Trained Mind, and various "reading lists for the college bound" that I found online.

We didn't use literature guides, really. They mostly just read the books. When I would ask them about it, they just said it was good, and asked for the next one. It's not like we dissected each book in an intense way. They loved reading, and I fed them books!

There were certain homeschool classes that I struggled to teach (for example, art and state history.) For these classes, I found it worked better when I let my kids learn from literature. When I got completely frustrated by a subject, I just scheduled the kids to read. So instead of studying art, we read art history. Instead of studying third year French, we read French books, and books about France. Reading is my kids' love language.

To keep a reading list, you can have the kids write down every book they read, but that didn't work well for me. I have a better idea! Keep all the receipts from the library and from the bookstore. Keep all your assignment sheets, if you use them, because that may have the names of books you have used. You can include books on tape, and you may want to include plays that are in book form (like Shakespeare, Death of a Salesman, etc.)

By the time you finish with homeschooling high school, an avid reader will have plowed through an impressive array of books. Make sure to capture them in a reading list (even if it is partial.) This can demonstrate to colleges that your students love to learn.
